i stacked it all in the front rows. (my stacks are 5 rows deep). I want to burn that pine first. Great shoulder season wood, and I don't like the sight of those bugs eating though the pine and leaving chips every where!!

I don't mind Pine at all in my stove!

Another nice thing about free Pine is it works great as firepit wood and is great to give away when someone asks for wood.

Splits easy,light weight.hot fire,smells good,dries fast.Whats not to like?

This one:"Splits easy" because many pieces I had for sure did not. Or maybe I was just spoiled by the straight ash and maple I splitted before. And don't forget the pitch; that stuff sucks. It also takes up a lot of room in the yard for comparably very little BTU. But otherwise, pine is good and free wood is even better.

To be honest most of the pine i burn is in the form of 100 yr old floor joists and wall studs. Very dry and yes it splits quite easily.

Cheater! ;lol I can send you some of the crooked and twisted pieces I have if you want to have a real "pine-experience". There is still one "block" that I probably will just cut down with my saw.

Sorry meant to say, I don't lift a finger for Spruce doh!
I was wondering about that. I was thinking what else does he have to burn!;lol Im the same way with Spruce. That stuff is crazy light when dry!

Isn't pine/spruce/fir the only option for burning in some areas? They seem to do well.
Thats the way it is for us in the Rockies of BC and most parts of the province. Since there is enough Lodgepole pine we dont have to mess with spruce if we dont want to. In fact we dont have to worry about being three years ahead either because it takes one season to dry and often we can be selective and take standing dead or blow downs that are close or below 20% mc when bucked up. In our area there is a small amount of white birch which is like gold to us but more plentiful is Larch which makes for good overnight burns.

only thing bad about pine is the sap when bucking. get the saw really messy. what the best cleaning solution for pine sap?

huh, must be different species. i had a Norway Spruce taken down in my yard and it wasn't terribly light when dried. It was a 80 yr old tree, maybe that made a difference.

but but but... i've always been told pine sucks because it will cause way more creosote. educate me please?

Wet wood makes creosote. Season it and it will burn just as clean as hardwood. Otherwise, a lot of homes in the west would have chimney fires several times per winter.

If all the stupid (and amazingly persistent) myths about burning Pine were true, then a whole lot of us out here in the west wouldn't even be around, because our ancestors would all have either frozen or burned to death. Burn it or don't burn it, I don't care, it's up to you. I burn it in significant quantities because that's what we have for fuel. Amazing as it may seem, I'm alive and well, and have never had any sort of creosote problems. C'mon out west of the Rockies one day and have a look around at which tree species grow in abundance, and which are nowhere to be found. Stay warm and safe. Rick

i'd take it in a heartbeat......love pine when seasoned right.

I'm burning some nice dry eastern white pine right now. It's 40 out with rain moving in and the oil furnace was running when I got home. Pine to the rescue, stove is nice and hot and ready for a load of hardwood.

There are more than 100 different species of Pine. They're not all the same.

There are many species of spruce, I have some that's light as a feather and I have some as heavy as hardwood when dried, I've been burning it this month. I have no idea what the different species are I just know there's tons of dead ones around here so I take what I can, wish I could get more of the heavy variety.

HELP I just watched that YouTube video and I need to get rid of all this oak from dead standing trees I cut this year. image.jpg

Also need to get rid of all this White Pine about 3 cords. Good thing I saw that video before I split and stacked the rest or I would be stuck burning this crap come fall. Any ideas as to how to get rid of it so I can make room for some nice WET fresh cut Oak.image.jpg

How come the pine doesn't get fancy tarps and skids and the well stacked and split treatment ?
