Def waiting for a response back so i can go inspect everything. Maybe its good maybe its not. But dont want to burn any bridges in the beginning. Hey if he is good ill spread the word for everyone at least in my area.

Also, you've got a whole summer ahead of you so even if the wood is at 30-40% inside it may be in good shape by the time Halloween rolls around. I don't know what firewood costs in your area. It may be a good deal despite the misleading sales pitch.

Wood in downstate New York is not going to season appreciably in the 5 months between now and when burning season starts again. Dead standing pine might be seasoned enough to burn, but 5 months doesn't mean much of anything when you're talking about seasoning hardwoods.

What are you saying? Summer is coming. Longer days, more sun, more energy to cause water to evaporate. The most appreciable drying will occur in the next 5 months. Wood getting full sun will probably get more than 50% of its water loss in the three months between June and August.

If it is oak and it was green on the stump yesterday it will seasoned appreciably but yes, it isn't going to be ready. If you have maple that is partially seasoned it will be more than ready for burning by November, provided you do your part keeping it in the sun any and all rain off it.

Emailed the guy about stopping buy to see it and he has not responded back. Well see what tomorrow brings.

The whole thing is odd to me. For one thing I'm surprised that he's offering such a great discount. If he's selling one for $125 then I'm surprised that he'd sell 40 at $75, even though that is a lot of wood. Around here $200/cord, green, dumped in a pile in the yard is the best I've seen. Maybe you could do better if committing to 20 cord, but not a whole lot better. The best I can find for log length is about $120/cord. From what I've heard the firewood market is pretty hot after the cold winter. Demand is high so there is no incentive for bulk discounts.

In my opinion you ought to buy one, stack it out and see how it is. Even if its green and its a little light, $150 for .8 cord isn't a terrible deal. However its shady if its green and he's selling it as seasoned so I'd have a hard time trusting the guy.

This picture from the CL ad looks pretty close to a cord.

If the bags are tightly packed. The bags look like a great way for them to handle the wood, but not a great way for you to store it.
Check your messages for a logger contact in Dutches County.

He also says
We are selling quality hardwood firewood by the bag each bag is 4x4x4= 64 cubic feet known as a half cord or face cord
He doesn't even know that a face cord is 1/3 cord but I'm betting what he's has in those bags is 1/3 cord or face cord. All that aside if you know what you're getting and if the price is good for your area nothing wrong with buying some.
Around here we can get green cords for $160, even cheaper if you buy multiple cords.

Can't really tell from the pic but it looks like the truck has an 8 foot bed and if there are two bags and they are on the floor of the truck bed, it would seem that the dimensions of the bag posted on craigslist are pretty accurate. But just with everyone else, I would want to empty one and measure it by actually re-stacking the wood. You would also learn the actual length of the pieces and end up with a big some sort of bag that you could use for something or other...

I can tell you right now that's not a cord unless it's stacked in those bags.
I had the same dump bed insert on my one ton with the same height sides and we had to heap it full loose thrown to get a cord on.
There is a 12" gap between the bag and each side of the rack on that truck

Well after looking around some more and checking prices, These are gonna be bagged,(wife doesnt want the lawn now filled with wood all over place) so I had a very nice txt converstion with the another gentlemen selling the wood the same way. Read for yourself and tell me what you think. The only part I domt agree with is the wood rot part.

I copied and pasted the text from my cell phone, didnt come out the way i wanted it too but at lest you can read the conversation.. The first reply is me and the second is him, so on and so on..

Is this the number for the wood for sale?

Yes

Ok. Is ok to text or do you prefer a phone call?

Text is fine

Is all your wood split and cut already and is so how big are the cuts?

Yes cut and split. 16 most pieces are. Few may be 18"

Like to buy for this winter is it seasoned? Also like to buy in large quantity. Around 25 cords. But quantity will depend on quality(species)of wood.

It's about 3 to 6 months. So by November it'll be year Where are located?

Wappingers Ok 130 a cord delivered

Cord or face cord? Last guy I bought stuff last year from tried pulling a fast one on me.

Cord. 4 by 4 by 8 These are full cords. Trucks are measured and each truck can hold certain amount. Up to 8 cords in a truck. But can't get that truck into a lot of residental driveways. Most homeowners we use 3 cord delivery at a time

Are they loaded loose or are the trucks loaded stacked?

Loose. But we go 5 by 4 by 8 by bed size on truck per cord for air space. So our small dump is 4 high 8 wide and 10 long. That's 2 cords worth.

Last years deliver I got was a dumpster full of wood. So wasn't stacked. Think it was a 18 yard dumpster in the end he was off about 4 cords on a 20 cord delivery.

Oh yea 18 yard dumpster isn't 20 cords. I get ten cords in a 30 yard dump.

He made multiple deliveries. But the biggest one he had was 18. 40 yard dumpster hold around 8-9 cords I thought.
30 yard is around 5-6. At least that's what I was told someone else how is selling wood also.

Yes 40 yard. That's biggest we have. but can't get in tight places It's almost 5 yards per cord. I sell wood in 2.5 yard 4 by 4 by 4 bags and 2 bags make a cord if u take out and stack. There on pallets. People like them cause they keep wood dry and no mess.

Sorry phone battery died last night. You stated about bags? Is the wood loose or stacked in the bag?

Loose in bags.

Ok. Bags sound cool. But how does a loose bag 4x4x4 equal to the same amount of stacked wood of 4x4x4 in a bag. Your bag loose bag is a 1/2 face cord not. 1/2 cord. So your looking at probably 1/3 of a cord right?

2 bags is a cord. Bagels is 4.5 feet tall and people have asked and actually took wood out and stacked it and they are accurate

Ok. BeSt price for 20 cords the ? And we cN rotate the bags every year when I replenish.

2600 cash delivered 40 bags

How many bags fit on one trip? 8. We unload them with pallet jack. So would take 5 trips

Just a lil worried about the bags your talking about. Sonce the wood is not fully seasoned yet are the bags breathable? Can the wood stay in the bags for years?

Yes. Very breathable. Wood doesn't rot. I send them to nyc for brick oven pizza places and not on compliant in 3 years I've been sending it there.

When can you deliver?

It would be throughout a weeks time. We r busy. I could do one delivery each evening or on weekend get them all to u.

You know I forgot to ask. What species of wood is it? I'm assume all hardwood but what kind.

Mostly oak. Little ash, and some elm

Ok thankyou.

You have my business, but if the deliveries you bring me are not what you say they then where gonna have to renegotiate. I have had too many wood suppliers try pulling fast ones.

It's honest cords and good quality

Ok I'll be doing business with then for a long time. I never got your name and business name?

Eric. D.m.d.construction

If I were you I'd commit to the first trip. Stack off one bag. If it stacks out then take the other 4 loads. Honestly for $130/cord even if its little short I still think you are getting a deal.

There is no way 2 bags are going to be a cord. I guess looking at the picture I would say at most 2/3 of a cord most likely less.

I'm with tsquini - I'm not seeing a full cord in 2 bags maybe 3/4, but no more. Like others have said, buy 1 or 2, stack them and make your decision then. Please let us know the outcome.

Thanks guys hopefully he will deliver some Saturday or Monday depending on rain and I will check everything out then.

To the extent that the bags retain a rectangular shape there's no way they're a half-cord apiece, but there's one way it could be closer than we're thinking. If you take a flexible 4' square and open it into a circle, you get a diameter of just over 61" and an area of 20.4 square feet. A cylinder of that size 4.5' tall would be 91.7 cubic feet, or just over what Maine state law would call half of a loose-thrown cord. The bags aren't round of course, but being fabric they're not really square either.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, if they're bulging there's probably more than we think.

I think more important than the sun on the wood is setting up the stacks so that the prevailing wind blows through them. That's how we get the fastest drying.

Well the supplier left me hanging and did not deliver on monday afternoon like he stated. All of the sudden he does not respond to his text messages. He doesn't even pic up his cell phone. Going to go another route as im not gonna keep calling. Obviously this company is not professional and does not conduct business professionally. I have called at least 8 times and no one has called back. This is the number is calling 845-418-4222 and texting.. Feel free to give it a shot yourself.

Probably has closer business or perhaps someone tipped him off on how his business was being scrutinized on this site??? Might even be something in the Hearth's "by-laws" that discourage publishing a business's contact info without the business knowing about it?

Hey man if I was doing something wrong I'm sure a moderator would of told me. I have no problem fixing a mistake. The information I give is public and no contract is signed stating different. Also I post to to let others know what ls going on and to draw their own conclusion. I will be on the Hunt for more wood.

This is turning into a soap opera. Stated you ain't buying from him so I am closing it.
