How's your enamel finish hold up after long term use? I just put a down payment on an Oslo. Pics would be great. Thanks.

It depends on how the stove has been treated. I have a 1984 Jotul 602 in a cranberry enamel that still looks great. I love the blue-black enamel and it stands up well.

I grew up with the green one that must have been a 602 and we had it for decades since I would guess the early 1980s and I never remember the finish degrading in any way. I wish my mother didn't sell it - I would be asking for it now.

Thanks. I don't plan on over working this stove, mostly for supplemental heat. It's actually slightly used, just a couple weeks. I'd does have some of the enamel chipped of where the door latches but I would think that's normal.

Our dealer warned me against spacing out and shutting the door with the latch in the wrong position. He said that's where he sees all the damage. And guess who has a chip there...

Green enamel 602 was purchased in 1974. Used in the spring and fall only and looks as good today as it did when first installed.

Black enamel, still cleans up like new.

I have a Blue Black Castine that I bought used last fall. Even though it was close to 10 years old, it still looked new when we bought it, and it still does. I don't think there is a chip anywhere.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like fraxinus get the award for oldest stove, 40 years old! And still looking good. That's good to hear.

Firelight F12 in green enamel burned 24/7 since purchased in 1997 stlll looks as good as new.

The Ivory enamel finishes on Jotuls generally did not hold up well.

I have the blue black on my Rockland. 4 years old and looks just like new. My understanding is that this is more of a powder coat than a true glossy enamel though. But I'm glad I went with it vs the matte black because it looks brand new.

I read the blue-black enamel is porcelain, but without the final glossy clear coat.

Hi all- the Blue Blacks are a satin finish vs glossy. They have 7 baked on layers of paint to give it the satin glow, whereas the glossy has 9 coats. That's how it was explained to me, blue black (my personal favorite Jotul enamel) is about 100 dollars less on the enamel price upgrade in price too due to the processing being less costly. Ivory is probably the one enamel finish I'd shy away from, Ivory gets its feelings bruised easily.....

My Oslo, purchased in 2000, green looks like new. I don't think they have this color now. We did get a quarter size water mark on top. It's a little dull. We just buffed it with glass stove top cleaner. Took out 75% of the mark. It's a fired glass finish process that been used lots of products forever. Amazing it stands up to the heat and expansion of the cast iron. Spend the extra money on this, you will be thanking yourself down the road.

I've got a 1987 Jotul 3 TD with a gray porcelain finish. That color has been discontinued for many years. I purchased it in 2006. It had been used for about 10 years and then sat in a barn for 10 years. I've used it for about 3 months a year since 2006. The finish was in perfect condition when I purchased it but over the last few years some pops or chips in the finish have shown up especially on the top of the stove. However, it still looks pretty good for a 27 year-old stove.

Xman, what caused your water mark? Did you have a pot on it to add moister? I've seen some pictures of green 602's and 118's, I didn't know they made other models green too. I really like that finish.
Chip tap this is the fist anyone has mentioned any problems I wonder if that's why that color was discontinued.
