Hi Everyone,

We recently bought brand new Osburn 1600 heater which was installed by a professional installer.

It was fine at the beginning after about a week started to make very loud popping/cracking noise when we add more logs and fire starting to get bigger/hotter and in most cases when air flow is limited.

I'm trying to understand if it's a defect, an installation issue, or something normal that will go away with time.

I made a video and uploaded onto Youtube:

Thank you in advance for your help!

Wow. That's pretty strange. Definitely sounds like metal expansion due to the heat.
I realize that it's hotter than HELL right next to the stove when it's burning, but can you
tell where the noise seems to originate from?

That would bother me too. Sounds like thin metal expanding. I am guessing it's in the secondary rack. Share the video with Osburn customer support and the dealer and let us know what they think.

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for your reply. The sound seems to be coming from the top part of the heater above the bricks but I'm not 100% sure.

I took this video with my phone and will come to the store I bought it from in the next week or two and show it to them, I just wanted to confirm this is normal or not to prepare to hear their response.

Thanks!

Yes, it is VERY hot. I burned my hand twice by touching it when poking/adding logs.

Mine pops a little but nothing like that. I'd have it checked out.

Welcome 'neighbour'. Was this a new install or a replacement? Did you have the Flue cleaned before install?

Hi mate, nice to meet an Aussie here! :)

We used to have an old fireplace which we completely removed first. Then the new fireplace was installed with the new flue kit.

I sent the link with the video to the store we bought it from, and will contact the installer today/tomorrow. The sounds got mush worse since I posted my first post here.

Good Luck - they should be able to sort it out. It does sound like metal expanding but it shouldn't be that loud and it should stop once it reaches temp.
