I guess I didn't read the manual well enough. There is a shutter in front of the air cleaner that is reversible-one way for cold weather and one way for everything else. Alas, mine must have been on cold weather for years. I looked at the manual because it's been hard restarting.
 
I find it helpful to read the owner's manual before I buy anything at all complicated, just to make sure I know what I'm letting myself in for. But then again, I enjoy doing my income taxes...

(P.S. I knew to check the shutter before I started the Stihl the first time).

Yeah, some folks are more into the excitement of discovering how their stuff works by trial and error! :eek:

The 025 I bought a few weeks ago has that, I couldn't figure out how it goes when it's not in winter mode. I'll have to have a closer look, no manual
 
I wasn't super concerned as I have other saws to use. I didn't realize the shutter slid down that far but I just went out and looked at it, got 'er figured out thanks
