Yes, you did SCORE ! nice one !

Very nice. Appealing to the eye as well as a good look on the hearth.

I have a few of these, and keep one next to each stove, for the same purpose. They usually fetch over $100 with the lid, so $40 was a good deal, even if you're missing the lid.

Great find. Love mine. Way better than the baskets. I pour the dust out once a month into a newspaper to make a quick starter.

Thanks guys. Quick question, does anyone know what kind of wood that is? I thought it was ash. Wife says it smells bad, but I don't smell anything, even with my nose right up to it.

That looks like swamp oak, also known as "piss oak", around here. Smells like cat piss when it's drying in your stacks, mid-summer. Packs some serious BTU's, though.

Beautiful tub Ricky, I zoomed it up. It's poplar, you can see the green tinge in it. Your poplar is too green lol. Let it season more.

thanks. that makes sense, there is a huge supply of poplar here and its def green tinted. i used it for the looks only, ill swap it oht this fall. im still not smelling anything and the wife hasnt said anything in a few days.

Looks cool, will hold enough wood for 1 load in the morning
