Hi everyone

I have received a number of mailings from pellet sources advertising spring pricing. Is it worth it? The prices seem a bit high (i.e. as high as they were during the early part of the winter). Appreciate your input. Thanks!

I have already ordered 5 tons of Turmans and they have already been delivered (for FREE). Got them for $229 a ton. On June 1st, my dealer has already stated that price goes up $10 a ton. Further into winter, I'm sure they will be more. With last years winter and scrambling to even find pellets, I am already set. I can only imagine those prices will increase closer to winter. I liked the early buy price, but I love the peace of mind I have going into the winter. Ask your suppliers what those prices will look like when early buy is over.

Wow - that's a great price. The lowest I've seen in CT is around $279/ton plus $60-90 for delivery

Lowest north of Connecticut I've seen is a price of $295 per ton....

i'M ALSO IN pa..
where are you located?

ctdinah-some other questions you need to ask yourself are whether you have the space to store those pellets. Most places require delivery shortly after you buy. If you have the space, will delivery put pallets where you need them, or do you have to take individual bags to a specific spot? I moved my pellets to my basement. Do you need delivery or not? Can you put out $1200 or so now? Is it worth peace of mind to get it done now as compared to later? I'm sure you'll save money buying now, but those are some things you need to think of. Good Luck!

ok...
down here between Phila &Trenton, New Jersey.
Then I was out your way a few weekends ago for my daughters volleyball tourney in Philly. Got to travel to Pittsburgh this weekend for another tourney. But I also got Pirates tickets for Saturday night!
Back to stoves! Wife gets cold in the evenings. I have burned the stove a few times the past few nights to take the chill off. How about you?

Pirates aren't setting the world on fire, either! But as I said in an earlier post, it's a good feeling knowing you already have your pellets for this coming winter. Saved some money on the pre buy, but the peace of mind is even better!

yep!!

still have about 25 bags of Home Depot Stove Chows for shoulder season...
Lot of Ash but they are hot, cheap, [229.00] and Come from the Energex Plant.
I think they are the better of the pellets that HD sells..[and they do sell some crappy brand at times]

Oh jeez... Fyi. In New England, the good stuff comes from as far as the mid Atlantic states so it seems like 285 for the premium stuff is our near term forecast. The shoulder pellet purchase is the only part that seems like you can get a little back in your pocket. Since I like Turman, i'm buying 3 tons now just to be sure I've got them.

My dealer told me that the main reason for the price increases was the increased cost of fuel used to transport the pellets from the mills to the dealers.

Too many people bragging how much they save using pellets. Will charge as much as the traffic will bear.

As long as I am 250.00 ton or lower, I'm happy.
And I can get Stove Chows, HD's Better pellets for 229.00 if needed..
I burned over ton last year and had no problems in a Harman..inconsistant size and all.
Very hot, very ashy but I'm gonna vacuum anyways every 10 days or so.. I look forward to it...

Runnin round try to save 10.00 can be a pain.but that;s just me.
Yeah, 10.00 ton for 4 tons is 80 bucks but,
unless I put it away, [Pellett savings fund?/?] it will get pissed away on something else.
1,000.00 yr is a nice round number...
[specially since that number used to be 2,000.00 yr 4 Oil..

For me, pellets would have to exceed $600 per ton for oil to be more economical based on oil costing $3.50 per gallon.

I just like the peace of mind of having next year's heat ready to go, so for me, that alone makes it worth it. Am I saving any money? Honestly, I don't know, but when I look at my 4 ton for next winter all stacked up in my basement, I feel better. I'm sure this is leftover mentality from my wood burning days of having the next two season's of heat all cut, split and stacked in my yard. The dealer I got the Ambiance from said their prices will go up as of June 1, so I took advantage of the May buy.
