Don't get me started ............. Cate Street is a bunch of crooks

They are for industry use.They make them in texas now.Supposably for export.Are waterproof,can store bulk outside(probably for shipping purposes).

I don't know about there but around here one is hard pressed to believe what the daily rags put out for information. It's so twisted and convoluted, AKA biased ( and generally anti business unless it's some lovey dovey business) you don't know if to believe the ones in the reports or the reporters version . And we won't get into editors.

Torrified pellets

They are being tried out in coal(only) burning power plants. They burn similar to coal and can be mixed up to a 70% with coal in those plants with some sucess. I'd like to get some and burn them. They produce 9500 BTU/lb

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a plant like that start up there ...... got a lot of friends there that are out of work papermakers .......... my problem is with the particular bunch of crooks that keep sucking money out of the taxpayers and delaying construction startup on a mill that was supposed to be operational a year ago ................... and, yeah, the BDN stopped reporting real news years ago ............

Is it really the plant operation ( proposed owners) causing delay and sucking money or is it more likely government regulators. Meeting standards in this day and age sucks and is very expensive, more expensive than ever realized going in.. EPA alone has long reaching arms. What is it that you think drove the paper people out of the area to begin with ? Government regulations. Probably reported by the rag as greedy paper mills move off shore. More like driven off shore or no one would buy their products for being too expensive.

Since we can't get into politics here, I won't and end there, said enough already ! I hope something moves into that area too. I remember the mills there when fishing in the area two decades ago now.

I've worked in the paper industry in Maine for 45 years, now, in 2 different mills, 2 yrs. in the first one, 43 in the one I am currently. Not in a management position. Cate Street has proposed various scenarios, schemes, scams, all requiring more financing, investment, and government guaranteed loans, with constantly changing processes, technologies, suppliers, startup dates, while not paying property taxes, contractors, or the IRS ...........

They have moved past torrified and are now talking about the zilkha system,steam explosion system,faster and more efficient.

Not a pellet burner, I'm way greener than a newbie because it don't own anything that can burn pellets, but if I remember correctly earlier this year during the deep freeze some refer to as the polar vortex, and the great pellet shortage; some members floated the idea of mixing in rice coal to supplement there wood pellets. Very experienced members stated that even if you could get light off in the burn pot the heat produced would cause significant damage to the pellet stove because the stove is not designed to handle that type of heat.

Yup, that was my thought Pellet stoves aren't built like coal stoves - you go to hot, and stuff will warp / melt

Not sure why you posted about burning coal in this thread as it is about wood pellet manufacturing.But there are dual burn wood/coal stoves(alaskan),and almost any pellet stove will safely burn a 10% mix,some even advertise it.Both are made from the same steel.BUT the biggest problem is the corrosive gasses from coal require different pipe.If i could get anthracite rice out here I would be running a mix.You can also learn more at nepacrossroads.On the other hand if I could get hard coal out here I would not own a pellet stove,used to use it back in MD.
