Montgomery County, PA.
Just pulled the trigger on 6 tons of Country Boy for next year. That will give me 6 tons country boy, 28 bags Hamer's, and 35 1/2 bags nations choice ( NC for end of season). Now if I went over board that would be great!

My 6 ton pile of Okanagan Douglas Fir.

For a size reference, I'm 6'3"

There's a half ton pile of Okanagan Platinums off camera.

I am also from Montgomery county so I was curious how much the pellets are and where did you buy them?

thanks
..Pat

I got them from Rays Greenhouse, they are $265 a ton picked up, I choose to have them delivered for $280 a ton. They also carry the Energex for $235 a ton picked up.

Close to 9 tons MWP blend and Crabbe as in signature.

Have you burned them before, if so, how do you like them. They aren't too far from me.

Never used them before, heard good things about them. They also carry Barefoot, which is what I was going to get, but they were unsure when they would be available.

My 6 tons will last 2 years.

Bought 6 tons of a brand u never tried before...?
not being sarcastic here... that's a big leap of faith...
guess that brand has a good reputation....none around here at all..

I've tried Douglas Firs before, just never Okanagan. I currently burn Okanagan Platinums. Since, I like Douglas Fir and I like Okanagan, It wasn't too big a stretch to think I'd like Okanagan Douglas Firs.

I know, but everything I read puts them up there with Barefoots and Hamer's. They are 100% oak from a hardwood floor company that makes their own pellets.

Sounds like you did the research......
only concideration at that point is some stoves don't do as well as others with the same pellets.
It's why they say try a few bags 1st but that;s not always easy especially if no one close by carries that brand,, No one near me carries Barefoot, Hamer, Turmans etc..
Mostly Energex and The HD Pellets..
ya hear the stories , Best I ever burned or.... clogged my auger etc... but, at the risk of sounding like debbie downer,!!!
I'm sure you made a good choice since you read many posts and made your decision from that...
lot of pellet owners just jump right in to Tons of pellets not knowing any history on them.. Good Luck.

Well I had a little change of plans, when they called to setup the delivery I asked if they had the Barefoot, and they did, so that is what was just delivered.

Do you actually burn 9 tons a year, or is that a multi-year stach?

hey. i haven't logged in much in quite a while.
we burned around 5 1/2 last winter.
only 4 1/2 the year before though.
the extra ton seems on par for what a read for a lot of other people in this corner of the world.

last year was basically an 8 month heating season for us though.

Just ordered my stash for next year. Will be delivered next week. Mwp blend. I like saving money by purchasing the cheaper pellets and supporting an in-state mill and a small local business.

after experimenting with a few other pellets, i'm back to mwp blend.
the crabbe burn hotter (hotter than the mwp softies too), but the stove still only has three speeds, and i don't think any pellet would allow me to run only on low all winter.
which is what it would take to even start to make up for the higher priced pellets.

the bottom line (quite literally) is that we are perfectly comfortable down to 20 below and i still wear shorts and a tee shirt and go barefoot all winter.
it just hasn't gotten colder than that since we've been here. but i'm confident we'd be fine even if it did.

the crabbe made less fly ash, but had the hockey puck ash plug (not clinkers) after 12 hours running.

the blend leave my burn pot free and clear to an amazing degree.
i've taken to just taking the fly ash out with a flat piece of sheet metal and don't even have to stop the stove for more than a minute or two in a week for that.
of course i have a metal bucket for those even though there is hardly ever any embers that persist for more than a minute in the fire box it self.
then i vacuum and clean the glass when it isn't dreadfully cold. i do both of those things far far less than the first year i had the stove.

with the crabbe, the ash drawer filled up way more often because of the heavier ash not getting blown out of the pot.
