48F now and down to 34f tonight so I will have a fire. Its been evening fires at my house the last three nights. Im enjoying it especially considering its nearing the end.

i've already had the last fire in the stove and been burning a small amount of nat gas but shut that off 2 - 3 weeks ago.
yesterdays high 47 the day before that 52 house body heat doesn't go far on those temps so i had a 6 hour fire in the open fireplace for the last two days. took the chill off. typical new england winter hangs then it's the mad dash for the air conditioners in two days time:confused:

stove cold for prolly 3 weeks but had a fire tonight just because I wanted to see one and it is down to 50!

I cannot believe we had to burn last night!! It's almost June for God sakes!!! 34 when I woke this morning :(
About 10 years ago I walked out the back door at midnite to do a drain check and star peep and there were wet snow flakes in the air ! Winter aint over till summer starts.

Opened another bag last night.

SURFACES - WIN_20140601_051414.JPG Thought I was done ... but it's cool this morning with the temp around 45 degrees F ... could turn on the oil boiler, layer up with more clothes or ....

Just burning some "junk" pine and slabs. Pic taken a few minutes ago so I didn't bother cleaning the stove or moving the vacuum.

I just put the AC unit in the window. Sleep Summit, sleep......

It's June, got home from kids baseball game and 44F and raining...we're having a fire tonite. Looks like it might be one of those summers...

Last burn was on May 30th.

Stove has been "summerized".

Hello

I am not done burning yet. Last night I tested this Hudson River Saranac after swapping out this nasty gummed up brass auger bearing for a permenently lubricated Nylatron auger bearing.
It seems much smoother and solved what I call the "Fire YoYo" effect. Before the fire was going up and down like a YoYo on heat level 3.

Now the fire seems very consistant.

Has anyone else tried this?

Maybe it was designed to "Yo-yo" to give that flickering, fireplace fire effect.

Good point.
Because the auger motor is intermittent, there maybe a slight "YoYo" effect but in this case it was very excessive with the bad gummed up brass bearing.

The Nylatron bearing did make a noticible difference.
