Can't believe it but lit the stove for the first time ever in June, to get rid of chill. Anyone else do the same?

I refuse to burn after May 31st. We'll put on a coat if we're cold.

My stove has been "summerized".

Are you serious?, you live in blamy RI, you just wanted to lite it cause you miss it....:p

less than a bag, i'd guess. been well and truly done for several days now.

i'm ordering the excessively expensive quad feed motor today.
summer-izing will happen after it arrives.

Left a window open overnight 2 nights ago and woke up to a 57F temp in the living room ... fired up the Elena. We've only had a couple of really nice days here lately so temps are nowhere near normal. Lots of cool and rainy.

It was less that 50 degrees on Saturday. I had the pellet stove on for 3 hours it dried the house nicely.

Curious to the amount of pellets you folks who are still burning here in June consume in a year..

98F and 60% humidity here today. I thought about starting the stove but decided not too.

low 60's this morning. i burned for 10 minutes with the windows open because i'm too lazy to do end of year maintenance.
just keeping stuff dry and the flue clear of anything thinking of nesting there.

put the new feed motor in a few days ago.
next is the igniter.
should have it shut down before the end of summer. haha.

Wondering when "end of season" cleaning is going to happen. 44(F) here this morning and stove burned for about 15 minutes. Have been through about a bag so far this JUNE!!!

Do you all burn 24/7?
Or do some of you shut down at night and use your central oil or gas then back on in morning?
[I know some here are nervous about burning all night..]

I burn 24/7. We haven't used the oil for anything other than hot water since the stove went in.

RAn the stove in the garage and in the house in June when the day time high did not get into the 60s. Could have stuck it out but with all the rain was cheaper to run the infloor with the Harman for a couple hours to dry things out and the same with the garage as trying to prep for the 4th and trying to keep the powder dry. Don't want to start any mold etc. We are supposed to be in the 40s tomorrow AM and 60 for the high and more rain:(. Today is 74 with a stiff wind from the North. We normally have had almost 10 90 degree days by this time of year and have not made it to 90 yet. Heating season started in October, making for 10 months of needing some heat. Good side, no high electric bill to run AC but the sump pump is about wore out.

Hey 8ball!
What do you think of the Wiseway?
Chickenman,I have been a wood burner for the last 40 yrs.and have always had an aversion to pellet stoves because of noise and no heat during power failures. When I saw the Wiseway unit it really caught my eye physically and then when I was told it is non electric I became very interested.I am a dealer as well as a distributor for Wiseway.I have been testing them quite extensively for the last 4 months both at work and at home. The longer I use it at home the more I like it.I have the new model at home which has a viewing window in the second leg of the flue and this really shows you what is happening combustion wise as well as draft wise. The stove makes noise it's draft noise but at times it's quite loud and only lasts a few seconds and then the stove settles back to a soft rumble. The stove starts very quickly and heats instantly and it's all radiant like all my woodstoves,I love that warm feeling as does my wife and dog,it also provides a surprising amount of convective heat delivery especially when using a Eco fan.I have excellent draft and this is crucial to the stove performing well.I have had to play with my burn basket somewhat to bring the heat up but understand I am burning it in June and now July so draft is far from ideal as fall and winter approach I will have to close my basket spacing so as to reduce heat output as draft improves. The stove works very well and heats wonderfully I burn overnight without concern,I have started to burn hardwood in it and wow what a difference in performance but I do need to shake the ash down a bit more. The stove holds it's temps very well.I damaged the stove paint finish because when you start the stove it just takes off and in my excitement didn't do a slow break in low fire which is required to season the Stove Bright paint, the bottom of the stove gets very hot very fast and I have learned to hand feed the stove for 30 minutes when they are new to season the paint.Cleaning is very easy and should be done every 3 or 4 days, requires removing the firebox and opening the glass door for a quick vacuum and then a restart, takes less than 5 minutes and the stove is heating again.
The radiant heat, lack of noise,no parts failure, ease of maintenance makes this unusual stove a keeper for me and my home.
cheers

If you live in an area where pellets are very expensive or power failures are common, then yes a pellet stove is not ideal. However, given their ease of use and ability to better regulate temperature makes me prefer them highly over traditional woodstoves

we always have our Oil furnace for power outtages....
A Generac 7500 watt Genny and power assist box in the basement wired into our main box gives us 10 different circuits in the house to run. Let's us run Hard wired rooms, furnace etc.
Best investment we ever made [ before the Pellet stove of course.]

In the picture that fat 30 amp plug goes into the Generator on the back porch and then into a 30 amp outlet outside which connects right back to the Assist box..
The Double breaker there runs our 24k BTU wall AC unit which we actually got to use 1st time last week as storms knocked out power for 24 hrs.
Don't have to be an Electrician to wire it.. very simple directions and also video to watch the hookup.

I have a whole house transfer switch which turns every outlet in my house over to generator power including the one powering the pellet stove :)

good to have,,, Mine is actually a transfer switch with limit of 10 Interchangeable circuits, but pretty much everything we wanted to run is within 10 circuits.
the only things we don't run or need [since they use up breakers] is washer/dryer/ electric stove... we use Our Grill on back porch, microwave, slow cooker, electric skillet, etc since the kitchen is energized.
my wife like to call her sister up during a power outtage and let her hear the vacuum cleaner running...
she's been trying to get her to get a Generator for years now...
If I had a dollar for everyone I know who after an outtage sez, " I'm getting a generator for next storm... Most of them still haven't got one....
I bought the Electric Start Generac 7500 watt new for 900.00 and the Transfer box for 297.00.
spent more than that on 50" Plasma tv..yrs ago.
