Black locust or elm?

Barkless elm or black locust?

I do not know for sure because I know nothing about elm but I do get lots of dead barkless BL that looks like that anyway got u some good wood.
 
If that is fresh cut, I say elm.
 
Looks like Red Elm...crack one open (if you can) and the color will tell the tale.

If that were in my area I would say elm. Hard to guess in other areas.

No water spots inside the shrink cracks and knots look a little different for elm. Might be locust.
 
Elm in the north east totally looses its bark due to disease. Around here locust only looses its bark after many, many years. Its the one tree you see standing naked!
 
Definitely not black locust......
 
Not BL grain. Red Elm if you think it's elm. I see a reddish pinkish hue to it.
