4" hole, what size hole saw

Bigger. I believe that a 4" pellet vent pipe is the inside dimension, not the outside. Do you already have the pipe or know which brand you will be using? Either measure outside dimension or go on manufacturers website and find out outside dimension.

The instructions for the vent makers thimble tell you how big the hole has to be. Vent makers installation instructions rule.

Use the wall thimble OD and draw around it with a pencil on the inside wall
Locate carefully.
Drill a 1/8 to 3/16 hole all the way through the wall in the center of where the opening is going.
You can then locate the outside circle.
Drill a couple 3/8 holes through the sheet rock and then use a KEY HOLE saw to cut around the out side of your pencil line
A hole saw that big is $$$$$$ use a little key hole saw.
Scan the wall first to make sure there are no electric or pipes in the wall
A stud finder is good too, to make sure you are between studs
After installing the thimble, caulk the outside piece all the way around, EXCEPT for about a 1 inch area at the center on the bottom.
This will allow any moisture to get out
Don't seal the inside thimble to the wall.
Be careful on the locate and center locate and your good to go. The rest is easy.
Once the center is located, its a 20 minute task to chop the hole in normal wood/ sheet rock contruction.
