I didn't say much back to him, but just starting NOW in late June and in this wet, humid Pennsylvania weather he's gonna need a lot of luck getting it dry by Fall. I saw about 10 rounds of Sycamore laying there unsplit too....it's none of my business, but "oy vey"

I hope he has some long-dead standing trees or some soft Maple...

i may be in this mans shoes unless i get off my ass and start gathering more wood......im running out of well seasoned wood fast this winter (in Australia) and looks like i may have to tap into my 2015 pile which will be devastating!....its like a sales pipe line...dont stop feeding it!

Don't stop splittin and stacking It

Just found out that one of my neighbors has a squirrely disc. I know where there's about a cord soft Maple I can get for him. Then all he has to do is get his teenage boys to split it.

Seems to be a common practice. I had a coworker just this morning tell me to let him know if I hear of anyone getting rid of trees. He doesn't have any wood yet.
Every time this guy hears that I've been cutting wood he says "let me know if you get too much." WTF does that even mean? In the last year, I've probably told him half a dozen times to visit the USFS ranger station 20 minutes from his house and get a permit.

It's the same around here, only a couple of people in my neighborhood do any of their splitting before mid-September. Lots of them get rounds delivered in the spring and leave them stacked in their driveways until it starts to get cold in the fall.

I had a conversation with my next door neighbor Friday night when I was checking out some renovations he and his wife have finished recently. I noticed his wood rack is full of rounds that are sitting directly on the ground. I explained he should get it split soon, told him a little about seasoning time, etc. in a mellow way, they're a nice couple and good neighbors, so just trying to improve their heating experience. He tells me that his family has heated with wood since he was a child and never split anything until it was about to go into the stove because "split wood will rot in no time."

Now I understand why he knocked a couple of pieces of glass out of the window on his stove to get extra airflow through it.

Right, stupidity SHOULD be painful IMO

I had the energy company on my property yesterday. I just had 12 cords of logs delivered. The workmen couldn't believe I was getting ready for "this winter" already. I told them I already had this winters 5 cords split and stacked. This was the next 2-3 years worth I was taking care of.

They were pretty floored and flabbergasted.
