Is a 2008 Bosca Spirit 500 worth about $500.00? Supposed to be in good shape, a friend of mine is wondering about it. He likes the looks of it and should be able to heat a 1500 sf. house decently insulated in Maine. I will go check it out with him, and make sure it works.
thanks
Bob

Watch out for Bosca at the moment. Parts are impossible to get and they have stopped even responding to my emails for getting some parts sent up from Chile.

I do not like the way the ignitors are setup but many parts are the same as Enviro. However if you want a good stove you are much better off with a used Harman, Quadrafire or Enviro.

He was looking at the price which seemed cheap to start out with.

No price is a good price for a Bosca product. I sincerely regret having bought my Spirit 500, which is less than two years old and needs repair. There is, however, no dealer in the U.S.; there is no number to call to get service; there is no place to buy parts. I wasted $2,500.

Well, Bob, if you're in northern New York, bring your pickup. I've had it with pellet stoves. It's back to oil for me.
Well everything breaks. But I am in montana.Call Sean at Mountain View Hearth and he can maybe help,as some parts can be swapped out for others.Story I got was USSC bought the import rights, and then quit selling stoves and getting parts, left the old original dealers hanging.Do not know if this is true, just know cannot get parts, and most people do not want their stove modified.

USSC was unable to get inventory from Bosca, which is a very poorly run company. Now, nobody holds parts, not even in England, where the company has a tenuous presence. Thanks for your input, though.

I would believe. I have emailed with 4 different people there trying to get parts. The last one wanted me to purchase a container worth which we just didn't have space for at the time. Now I can't get anyone to get back to me from there. I would love to actually carry some parts for them, I have to turn away a ton of people.

We still do have some parts left. BTE at78RPM ispretty right with the way things went.

Have you had any luck with getting the parts?

I contacted Bosca on their Facebook page, using what little Spanish I remember. They promised to get back to me on Tuesday. In fairness, they didn't say which Tuesday. It could have been a Tuesday six months hence, or a Tuesday in 2016. Many Tuesdays have come and gone without another word from Bosca. I have reported the company to the NYS Attorney General, and Bosca might want to think hard about ever having a presence in the U.S. again.

The only other spare I'd like to have on the shelf for my 500 classic is a burn grate #12720035 not that mine will be needing replacement soon or anything. I think USSC has them but they're a bit spendy. My best friend who works at an architectural metals company even offered to make one for me on their humongous press brake. It would be pretty easy, I even drew one up in AutoCAD.

With regard to other parts, the auger bushings cross reference over to a Whitfield part, the auger motor is standard generic 1rpm stock, the control board can be swapped from a st croix, both the blowers are standard generic stock as well as the gaskets, and the igniter. All very easily sourced regular maintenace items.

I can't imagine needing much else. I really like my stove, 3rd season now at it does a great job an is easy to service.

I got mine brand new from a bankrupt stove shop for $900 when we were finishing our lower level.

I suppose if your not very handy, mechanically inclined, or like the occasional challenge, owning a well built but poorly supported stove wouldn't be the best choice. But for me, it's a-okay.
