Brand new P43 - Is this soot on the glass normal?

Hi all,

I purchased a brand new Harman P43 and had it professionally installed (back in February). I have been having some issues with the glass getting dirty very quickly. The attached picture is the glass after 36 hours of operation. The ash pattern makes me think that there is a leak around the door or glass gasket. The company I bought it from replaced the door gasket but the problem continues (picture is after door gasket replacement).

I saw another thread where a P43 owner had the same buildup in the same area. It got me thinking that maybe this is something that is normal with this make or model. Can any P43 owners confirm if you have the same type of buildup? If so, did you get it fixed? If fixed, what fixed it?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

I have your stoves big brother the P61 and yes it's normal. And more or less of it according to the type or brand of pellets burned. But it just wipes off. I dampen a paper towel with warm water and wipe it off, use a second dry one to dry it if I can get to it quick enough and it hasn't dried itself. I do a more thorough job when the stove is shut down for cleaning or if we have company over.

I have 2 -- P61a-2 stoves and that is normal. After 36 hours it is less dirty than most other brand stoves. Harman is one of the best! Good luck. :)

P.S, The extension hopper is a great option!
 
Unless it is jet black I wouldn't be concerned. Light colored ash buildup is normal.
 
Yes that is normal. My P43 looks just like that after the same amount of time. I love my P43!

I wet the he paper towel with warm water in the shoulder season FWIW. In mid winter I used the dry paper towel with stove going but the stove was much hotter then. You can't touch the glass mid season with a finger or I wouldn't anyway . You can lightly touch it in the shoulder season if its not a cold night. Make the water slightly uncomfortable, it worked fine for me.
 
Whatever you do, do not conventional glass cleaner on the stove glass. Use a cleaner specifically designed for wood stoves.

I only ever use warm water or dry towels.

I do too most of the time. The cleaner I use has a mild abrasive that easily takes care of stove glass stains that a wet paper towel won't.
