Stove pipe conundrum!

I am replacing an old (1970s) franklin stove.
Need to use 6" double wall stove pipe in place of 8" single wall pipe existing.
I was thinking 6" double wall to ceiling (as close as possible) then converter from 6 to 8 diameter and double wall to single wall. I would like to avoid messing around with the roof . Suggestions/advice appreciated.

Just leave a little bit of single wall 8" sticking out, crimp it and slip the 8" to 6" adaptor over the piece of single wall.

I don't guess you know what brand of pipe you have... Mixing brands is a crap shoot as to weather they will fit.
 
Going from single wall to double is a custom fit anyway. You are essentially using the small piece of single wall as a stovepipe adaptor.
Unless the chimney has a nice stovepipe adaptor, then it can be pushed right into the 8"x6" increaser.
