When I was doing estimates for a tree company in an affluent area of north Jersey I saw a lot of what you describe. Some jobs where I figured we could send a crew out at a fair price of say, $1,500-- they ended up taking a bid for something like $400! Worked the other way around as well where I'd meet some home owner who paid $1,500 for a job we would have gladly done for $500. Just goes to show 'ya that anyone with a pickup and a chainsaw can call themselves a "tree expert".

Scares me to think of the liability issues however where poorly trained & equipped as well as uninsured guys are out there on some of these jobs...

Takes a little time - need a bigger saw- rent one. It can be done with some determination. Beech is better than Oak and takes less time to dry out as well. Some of the best scores I have had have been huge dia. trees that no one wants to tackle, cutting them into 1/8 dia chunks just to be able to move them.

I had a boss once that said " A big job is just a whole lot of little jobs put together "
So do one little job at a time till it done

+1, that's the only way to tackle it (unless you have access to heavy equipment).

Looks to me to be enough free firewood to justify a bigger saw!
