Guy has a Vermont castings Intrepid II on Craigslist for sale. He bought it new 9 years ago. It is complete and all original. Older fella who is going to gas because of his age. Stove looks really nice. He is asking $650 for it. Is that a deal or is it worth it? Thanks in advance

Historically, VC holds their value, despite their setbacks the past 10-15 years. That stove new was prob around 1000-1200, so don't know if its worth 650. If its really pristine, I'd say 400-500 at the most. The little feller will heat effectively up to around 800-1000 sqft and burn about 4-6 hours. Good luck to you. For a few hundred more you know, you can get a steel stove that is new, prob less trouble to burn and will prob perform better. Just sayin'...

Thanks for the info. Was going off of the Vermont Castings name. I know their quality is very nice. This one is very very nice and clean. Are the older intrepid better than the newer ones? Just curious

Wouldn't say the old was better than present day models, but I'd still check out new stoves if possible. And I'd look at more than VC, lots of quality cast stoves made, as well as steel stoves. Good luck with the search.
