I'm thinking one of those bins the landscaping places use for stones, the cage on a pallet thing. I wonder if they are a haul back or if they would give one up.

Pallets are free , make a bin, simple :)
yup, that is the plan, make a bin for the fuglies, and a bin for the kindling.....(if i have any left that is....) i started breaking down branches to bundle up,and had a nice size pile going.... turn my head for 2 minutes and me mum had half of it already burned up in the outside stove....i said whoa whoa whoa, whadda ya doin? that's a precious resource...drives me nuts, whether it's short and uglies, kindling, splitter shavings, or bark, i will burn it all inside.....she looks at it as if it is trash...and don't even get me started on the sawdust

what i did for the kindling, in lieu of a pallet bin, is used a couple of those simple racks, the kind where the ends(upside down ''U'' shape) slide onto the base...filled them both up and made some bundles using some plastic coated rebar tie wire... for the real small stuff....

...that would be perfect....if ya can find one free(or close to free)

I've got a pallet bin, but I've got some chain-link fence and I'm thinking I could make a couple parallel sides about two feet apart and fifteen feet long. Wind would blow through the wood pretty well with that setup...
....that's pretty cool....you could take it further(or i could) and just go around the whole perimiter of the backyard, making a place to store all the short uglies, and you'd have a hybrid fence/ wall.....hmmmm

Yup, shorts/uglies, that's what I feed the lil stove upstairs until it gets cold enough to start feedin the good stuff to the Yukon furnace downstairs.
I made bins out of a pallet(s) and a hog fence panel(s) from TSC. The panels are 16' long so I cut them down into 4' long quarters, stapled the bottoms to the pallet with fence staples, then I wired the corners together with pieces of fence panel wire left over from trimming the quarters down to fit my 48" x 42" pallets.
So that I can reach the bottom of my "crate", I cut the front panel in 1/2 horizontally then made a fold down panel by making "hinges" with split-chain-repair-links holding the top 1/2 to the bottom 1/2 of the front panel. I hold it in the up, or closed position with a small caribeaner (sp?) clip or dog chain clip, whatever is layin around. I'll try to get a pic...

.....that's a great idea with the hinge, because it is not fun trying to grab something from the bottom of a bin that is as tall or taller than half of your height....

OK, I have about 20 cu ft of these. Does anyone have an uglies/shorties bin?

Bin from my previous home, will be building something similar at current property. I think it was around 9x5x4. Could swing front top post open for easier access. Pretty amazing how quickly you can fill up those bins.

Ok, I finally had time to get a few pics of my hog panel crates for y'all.
Firewood racks, etc 004.JPG Firewood racks, etc 005.JPG Firewood racks, etc 006.JPG Firewood racks, etc 007.JPG Firewood racks, etc 008.JPG I guess I had forgot until I took these pics that I had screwed 2x4s down to the perimeter of the pallet to staple the bottom of the panels too

Picked up some 2x4 PT and decided to build a cage bin. I can't fit pallets in the Prius, too wide. I have a lot of galvanized screen left over I want out of the basement anyway.

Okay, so I slapped something together so I could get the uglies off the ground. It was only 1/2 full when I finished loading them, so I tossed some branch cutting on top.

That'll work! I could foresee some blood letting goin on there when diggin the wood back outta there though...::-)

yea, i realized that afterward. i'm thinking of cutting a "doggy door" near the bottom to retrieve wood from. I can always tie it back up with metal ties.

Doggy door and then teach fido to fetch the wood for ya, then you'd really have something! ;)
