Near my house, sat on the ground 18 months. Maple, ash, cherry. Was able to pull right up to pile. Think I got 5 or 6 cord

Surprisingly very little rot that I can see for laying on the ground that long-good score !

Cherry heartwood will hold up really well. I cut one in the woods behind my SIL's house this spring that was lying on the ground, sapwood completely gone, and the heart was still solid. Had to be lying there five years at least, I'd think.

Cherry - Boinnnggg!! Like splitting an old tire. Choke Cherry we call it up here, don't kno we call it that. Burns real nice though.
I've found that straight Black Cherry splits real easy...crotch pieces are another story. <>

SWEEEEET !

cherry is the toughest thing I have split yet.

Guy gave me 2+ cord he couldn't split by hand. It was twisty to the max. I will get a photo of the stacks.
