Hello

I know GMG has a very nice pellet grill and the new WiFi setup can be installed on existing grills.

Does anyone have the WiFi setup and if so how does it work when doing a 6 hour smoke?
Thinking of bringing some in.

Here is a tough issue but since Travis supports these grills the problem was finally resolved!

We'll, I had way too many remote controls for TV, Stereo, DVD etc.
So getting rid of that remote hardware and having it all on my iPhone is less to go wrong and much cheaper to download a free app!

I just hate being reliant on my bloody phone. Life was simpler without it but there is no way back[/quote]

Years ago a round thermostat was installed on the wall and it would work for next 40 years. Our gov. came in and said we are here to help you, It has nasty mercury in it.
I must have a strange customer base because after they are shown how to use the Hold button on the new gee whiz t stat life is good, set it at a temp press hold and away you go.

So now we put in digital things in that need batteries every year, have a high failure rate and have so many features that the average user will never use half of them.
If you don't change batteries some of them will fail so you come home to a cold house.
All the batteries and junk thermostat's are now being tossed into our landfills, the price of progress i guess.

I don't change the temp of my house more than a couple of times a year, It get's changed if I'm going away for a few day's.

I put a "Comfort Stat" in my house a few years ago and have to admit it does keep the house at an evener temp. I hate the thing as the furnace/central air is constantly cycling on and off, If pellets wasn't my main source of heat it would have been replaced years ago.
Off my soapbox now.

I don't have a GMG but I have a have a gadget that remotely sends both oven temp and meat internal temp to a receiver unit. I have found the temp guages on the grills inaccurate. You can even set low and high alerts for both temps. It makes smoking racks for 6 hrs a bit smoother.

I use a wireless meat thermometer. I don't smoke for a set amount of time, I cook until the internal temperature is just right which is approximately 2 hours for chicken and 4 hours for pork ribs.

Good info thank-you!

Same here. I use a wireless meat thermometer with my pellet grill. Not Wi-Fi, just RF wireless to a receiver. It monitors the meat and grill temperatures. The first one I bought locally didn't last very long. The thermocouple wiring melted. I found one online with a higher temperature rating and it's been working great for a couple years.

Think I'll throw some ribs on the Traeger for tonight. Set the temp and walk away.

Thanks for the inspiration! These are coming off in a bit and are joining the smoked turkey legs!

I have been using a pellet grill for years now. I have been faithful to traeger but this new technology by GMG is amazing. You can set profiles for each type of food. I love this feature... being able to put a brisket on and have the app automatically control the temperature is awesome.. Not to mention GMG grills have a low pellet alarm... which would of helped me on several cooks... GMG is constantly innovating and bringing new products to there customers. I will be getting a GMG as soon as I sell my Traeger... or all of my Traegers... Anyone interested?

they just came out this past week so not a lot of reviews yet . i may or may not upgrade my GMG because it already does most of what this does . mine is the remote control version already and boy is it nice when its 10f out to be able to tweak your temps from inside .

the wifi is wifi direct . it does not go through your router or pc and cant be used once out of range , @ 150 ft .

however it is pretty cool especially since GMG just lowered their prices by $150 on all grills and you can now buy the wifi version for the same price as the old non-remote version .

Hello

Just talking to my supplier and the WiFi grills will not be available here until sometime in September. Still sounds like a great way to go!

Personally, if I replace the Traeger it will be with a Yoder Smoker or a Madera. Not a fan of GMG, and I rather pay more for a better build quality and materials. My 2 cents.

I use a simpler approach. I get off my lazy arse and go check the temperature once in a while. It also gives me an excuse to get another beer..... I see NO reason to be tethered to a smart phone for something as basic as smoking. I have an electric smoker and nothing happens that quickly. I smoke ribs, pulled pork, chicken halves, and andouille sausage just fine without the BS.

I hear ya! Just did these eels last night and am letting them sit a couple days to pull through. First attempt at them and I wish I could hang them vertically. image.jpg
