Hello
I was thinking of get some forks for the 3 pt on my tractor.
then it got me thinking what if I put 3 pallets together in a u shape and stacked wood on them in the field while cutting.
That way I could move the wood with the tractor to the place where I season.
then in the fall I could move them with the tractor into the barn.

If the pallets are 42x42 that give me 1/3 cord so I would need 12-14 of these rigs.

Has anyone done anything like this?
Or can you think of a better system that I could use?

It has been done and with pretty good success. Only down side to the 3 point is no stacking, but if you have the room that could be a non issue.

Take a search for my thread on the topic. I'm moving them with FEL. there's several examples, and pics in that thread.

JP11 that is exactly what I was thinking of doing.

I have a couple questions for you if you dont mind.
- what size pallets are those
- can you fit 3 rows deep and still move them ok without anything falling out?
- have you been able to move them over uneven ground (I will have to move them from the farm field to the barn with the 3 pt so I was worried about the wood falling out of the pallets while moving)

I have a FEL but it would not pick up the pallets that is just too much weight.
I also have the room for 12-14 of them in my barn with no problem.

Pallets are the common ones.. what is it.. 42x48?

I use 24" wood.. so I'm just two rows. I initially was 'hanging' the wood out the ends 3 or 4" and putting uglies in the middle. It just wasn't worth it. I dumped a few loads. The issue was more that my forks were 3 foot, and I was tipping that outside row OUT and dumping it because I wasn't able to put forks all the way THROUGH the pallet to the end and lift uniformly.

Uneven ground isn't an issue to move across. you need to remember you're moving a third of a cord at a time. so you can afford to go very slow. Uneven ground you can't have when setting them down. they don't take that well at all.

I learned that it was just easier and simpler to build more pallets.. and stack on two rows, no overhang at all. Uglies go on top. I put pallet racks in my barn to stack high. I'm blessed with tall ceilings, and floor space is always at a premium.

Great
Thanks for the advice

I welded a frame together and used 2x12 treated on floor and 3/4 inch plywood on sides. its 4W X 4L X 4H It holds just a little over a half cord. Thats about a 70hp tractor with a loader and it will bounce the front tires off the ground if I go fast back to the house.
