Yeah I usually wait until the snow flies. It sure is nice to have some right on the porch when it is snowing though.
I like to have everything moved to where its gonna spend the winter before it snows. Although having frozen ground to drive on is very helpful. We've had a very rainy summer so the fall might be worse. Do what I can when I can with no regard for bug lifecycles.

Note that a lot of bugs don't die in freezing weather. Many ants, for instance, will enter a dormant state but then become active when warm again.

I don't wait. I already have 4 1/2 cords in the basement. I won't have to think about hauling wood again until February.
I move the next years wood into the shed behind the garage, next to the breezeway entrance, as soon as the last burn is over in the Spring. Lot easier to ignore the downpours we have around here all Summer and Fall. Just watch the solar gable fan in the shed blow that hot air through there all Summer.

I usually hold off on loading up the wood on my porch until sometime in late October to mid November after we've started getting cooler temps.

I just started filling up my just out the garage door cord and a half. When it gets cold, a face cord will go in the garage and I will keep it full throughout the season from the stuff that is just outside the garage.....I love moving wood.....
