I stopped by my local Tractor Supply yesterday, and they are selling pellets for $239/ton. The had many pallets of pellets out in the lot that already had been sold, with names spray painted on them. I couldn't find out any info from the packaging regarding where, or by what company, they were were manufactured. One of the bags was ripped open, so I pulled out some pellets to take a look. Some of the pellets were an inch long, others were shorter. Does anyone know if these are decent pellets?

You can ID the manufacturer by looking at the numbers in the bar code. The Energex (Pa) ones have a 77220 in the bar code (I think these are the TSC bags labeled "Hardwood pellet fuel"). I really liked them this past season.
The other common manufacturer for TSC is MWP... I haven't tried these.

The MWP UPC code is 8 52453 00306 6. Seems lots of TSC stores in New England are loaded up with them now. The variance in pellet length is completely normal. You really can't tell the quality of a pellet by looking at a picture of them. They need to be burned in order to make a true judgement. See if you can ID the brand and then do some searching on these forums for comments from those who have burned them previously, that will help too.

I liked the white bag MWP from TSC a few years back.
The maroon bagged ones last season were not so good i heard, so i didn't bother to try them.

The TS store in Nazareth Pa has Hardwood heat? 237 a ton.....that is what I saw but they had another brand in the fenced area....

Just replying what I saw today. I visited Lowes, HD, TS and Ace. Got Lignetics for 225. Put info in the pellet buying area......fyi

Looks like it is the MWP.

The tractor supply in Western Ma. near me is selling Green Supremes at 239/ton. For 16/ton more I bought VWP on their spring buy.

As far as I know, they are the very same product, just in different bags. Dealer near me is selling them for $272/ton.

It's funny, the reviews on here for MWP are pretty negative, but a couple of my friends buy their pellets from these guys and swear by them.

There are 2 kinds of MWP... hardwood (like TSC sells) aren't that good. Their softwood line is pretty good though.

Are there three kinds because they have a Blend that is 65% hardwood and 35% softwood? Or is this considered the hardwood?

They sell the blend and softwood. People often refer to the blend as hardwood pellets.
