Thats a beautiful picture Ricky! Im almost all set for this winter. I just got back from a drive in the bush to get another truck load of standing dead lodgepole which is already below 20%. Fortunately for me I dont have to get 3 years ahead since I live in BC where we mostly burn soft woods. Much of my Larch that I got in the spring was around 24% so it was c,s,s right away and top covered. So it may only be 77 days until November but its also only 18 Fridays until Christmas!

I have never tried burning wood in a Canadian...what am I missing?

yah, hard to believe summer is almost gone already. I should be set for this winters wood and im looking to get years ahead. Fall is my main wood cutting time of year so lots of work to be done yet before snow flies. just hope we have a better winter than last year, that sucked big time.

Just finished putting 3.3 cords of 2 year seasoned wood in the basement. Black walnut..cherry and ash mostly. let it snow!
As a friend who moved here from Florida said; "The change of seasons is highly overrated.".

Well the squirrels are eating the hickory nuts like I have never seen.

My place is usually overrun with squirrels. Since a few months ago they have all disappeared. Sign of what?
Ah it ain't over yet.
It's cooled a little but its still a country mile from -20C. Really hope there's no snow before Haloween. We had a rarther unpleasant winter gone.
The forecast is predicting 28C early this week.
All fire wood is split, just modifying the basment ready for the new burner.

We are six weeks away from hearth.com lighting up with "Are you burning yet?".
I would have figured that coyotes have finally moved in. But the deer still show up every afternoon to mow the yard. But the squirrel thing is really noticeable. They were as thick as the posts jumping on a Vogelzang question just two months ago. Now, gone.

Usually it ends up being one or the other around here when there's a noticeable absence of local rodents.
Maybe they sense the change in seasons and after last year, they're heading south for the winter.

lived in florida 3 years and moved back to PA. shark fishing is nice, but nothing beats the changing seasons. bring on the pumpkin beers.
