What about plumbing in some cast iron rads, at strategic places (like under a workbench?) where you would appreciate the heat, between the heaters & the storage return? Those things can really get the heat out of the water & give great heat at lower temps - lower your return temps even more.

Plus can usually be found used, and solid.

I have 13 cast iron radiators sitting in my shed unused to this point. I need to get them in somewhere. I have been waiting to get a buffer installed for those too....After a certain point of spending money on a system it gets harder to spend more to have it work better to a uncertain extent.

Good idea. Thanks.

Just got a price on having a contractor(the only one I can find) and it was $1350.00 to foam it to r-30. Thought it might be cheaper. With the price of tank, all welded, cleaned and pressure tested for $950. Plus the cost of expansion tank, it looks to be over 3000k.

I found if you purchase a tank and do not do all the work yourself the costs are high for thermal storage.

The best option I saw for insulation was a insulation board box and blown in fiberglass or loose insulation. The insulation board can be had used to save money.

after much examination I felt that $3-4 a gallon was normal for an uninsulated pressure tank.

you could also look into tiger foam and foam yourself. I forget those prices

I would also think about an insulation blanket similar to what "heaterman" utilizes on his Garn installations.

I just framed a box around my tanks and put the insulation to it. Quite cheap.

Also with a box, you could crack one end open and make it like a great big rad if you want a lot of heat in a hurry.

There is a used insulation place on the east coast of Maine I believe. If you know a trucker you could save.
