Englander 25 PDV or 25 PAH??

Well I think I narrowed my stove choice down to one of these two. Im looking for some info and assistance on any of these stoves? I do understand that these stoves are not the top of the line but its in my budget, this stove will be put in a 1500 sq. ft. basement for supplemental heat.
The PDV heats 2200 sq.ft. 60 lb. hopper No ash pan 42,000 btu I believe,
PAH heats 2000 sq.ft. 120 lb. hopper Has ash pan 25,000 btu

I don't exactly understand the big difference in btu's between these stoves. I found my info on pelletstovefires.com
I was thinking of getting the PAH because of the larger hopper and ash pan but the much lower btu's have me concerned, even though its 200 sq.ft. less heating range.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

I'm not sure of the btu #'s for each but those sound low....have you looked at the AMFM Energy website?...they sell Timber Ridge which is made by England Stove Works for substantially cheaper money. I have a new one being delivered tomorrow, it has a scratch on it, but it's going in my basement and for $700 cheaper than HD, I could care less. They still come with full factory warranty.

I can vouch for the PAH putting out a lot of heat and being a very dependable workhorse. The BTU rating is the actual output rating for this unit after factoring in efficiency, instead of the input rating that many companies list (roughly 20% higher).
The strong blower distributes the heat nicely, so it works well for a large area. Mine heats my roughly 1600ft3 ranch nicely, even well below zero. The large hopper is nice for obvious reasons.
As BobMA mentioned, AM/FM is the place to get one. Much cheaper then anywhere else and it will get to you quickly.

I would not say "Englander is NOT top of the line", in fact they make a very very good unit. A lot of Englander owners love their stoves.

I've owned a couple "high end" stoves, Thelin & Quad Castile, neither one compares to my TR PAH. I bought mine for $1000 from amfm energy. They are great to deal with & shipped to my door for $75. It burns real hot. It has a more powerful blower and distributes heat quickly! I burn Turmans. & Hammers, never had to run it more than 4/5

I have the PAH installed last year in my basement agree with others about am/fm if you decide to get one. Went with PAH over the PDV because it was a updated design specifically on the auger motor if i remember correctly. One thing I will say and you will read about if you search for heating a basement on the forum is it;s hard to heat basement. I didn't believe it thought the stove would "overpower" the cold and it will as long as you don't turn it off. So this year I'm insulating the one wall that is not insulated it is below grade level and I thought I could get by without. My advice if you get the stove and your not insulated you might want to think about insulation. Other than that for what I paid for the stove I was happy with it.

Thanks bobma. I did look into amfm and I believe I'm going to call them tomm. My local ace hardware wants $2000 for the PAH I seen the timber ridge PAH for $1000. Do they deliver right to your door for an extra $75? Is amfm a good website to deal with?

Just took delivery on my new stove today, went with the TRP22 and I paid the extra $75 for delivery to my house. It came by AFB Freight with a lift gate truck. The driver went above and beyond...actually brought it around the back of my house over the lawn with a pallet jack and even helped me get it in the basement!

Opened it up to view the surface defects noted on the box label......had to really look for them....was very very happy with what I received. Andy at AMFM is really knowledgable about these stoves as I called him a couple times with questions before I purchased...so far my experience has been nothing but positive and if the start up goes as smooth as everything else has up to now, I will be extremely satisfied!
