I have been looking at the buck 74. I have a 2000 sq ft split level and I'm trying to use the least amount of oil as possible. I'm not seeing many reviews on the buck and the ones I do are average. I have 1800 to put on an insert. What stoves are would anyone reccomend.

My buddy was stove hunting this weekend and said that he found great deal on jotul f500 for $2000 after all rebates. If I had budget that stove would be my choice. For 1800 sf you want to get as big of a fire box as you can.

The Buck 74 is a reliable and venerable workhorse. If the house is well insulated it should make a big dent in the heating bill. That is IF you have fully seasoned wood to burn. A modern stove is going to want dry wood to burn.

Are you looking for a wood burning insert to go in a fireplace? Is this a Zero Clearance fireplace? Is so, what make and model?

Sounds like a good price.

That Buck is a tank. I think you will like it and that is a good price on stove and liner if it includes the stove legs or pedestal.

Sounds like you have a good price and a good setup. How is the wood supply? This stove is going to be happiest burning fully seasoned wood.

If the willow is not split, forget about it for fall. Willow holds a lot of moisture.

Try the willow for fall and spring burning and save the hardwood for real winter weather.
