Looks like Ash.

No matter what it is - it's cut to length with easy curbside pickup and free. I'd be on it.

I think the ridges are too deep for Norway, I'd go with an Ash of some sort. But that's a definitely "go get it" pile!!
Grab some leaves for us to see. I thought I saw compound.

I got tricked last weekend by a norway maple, that I thought was ash, until I got it split.

The small amount of heartwood compared to sapwood has me leaning norway. I'm just finishing up a large batch of ash - around 3 cords. All of it has a large amount of heartwood compared to sapwood.

Either way though, it would be on my "to do" list. Did you end up getting it? Free curbside stuff like that goes fast around here this time of year.

I dozed off watching TV, went by this morning and was able to salvage 2 logs, haven't split em yet but the leaves didn't look like ash. Got sidetracked on a free oak offering so I dropped everything lol... white or red?

Those things were heavier than anything i've picked up besides locust...i'm sure the neighbors weren't too pleased when I whipped out the maul and started hacking away, split like a dream though!

I got a full truck loads worth, probably pulled my back out doing it... for the rest of those monsters I'd have to be out there all day hacking at it. It's amazing though, guarantee it's gone by the morning. I've gone on some scrounge missions where all the wood is gone within an hour of being posted.

Not a bad trick to me; I love Norway Maple! I have some in the mix this season!

Oh I love maple. That's all silver in my avatar, and I got another stack of red that size for this year. That's all we burned when I was a kid. I had nothing left after last winter, so I needed something that could dry in 1 summer. Most of it is currently sitting at 17-21% Did I mention I love maple? ;)
