I burned Energex Hardwoods[American] and HD's Stove chows Last winter and although Energex Bags The Chows, there is a difference.
Stove chows are a bit darker in color and the size is not consistant like Energex. the smell is different when a bag is opened and when they are burned.
It's a sweeter smell so the pellets are not the same....
Ash seems to be a bit more with the Chows but as far as heat, I couldn't tell any difference.
I would burn either brand all winter...

I know what brands my pellet dealer carries, and if something is not in stock it will be shortly.

A big box store carries whatever brand of pellets fell off the truck that day ;). It can be hard to acquire a specific brand.
Yes, the girl at HD said the pellets they had were all sold ( except for the half pallet or so of loose bags), the next truck may have more FSU or not, they will know when the truck shows up. They expect a shipment tomorrow or Wed.

Green Supreme were all sold out at Lowes, they just got in a shipment of Green Team.

It's Sept now, the dealer who carries Energex and LG should have his stock in shortly. his price is a bit higher than the box store price and his delivery price higher. HD $239 a ton delivery is $56 flat fee. Lowes is $60 flat fee with similar pricing. The dealer is $95 and $292 per ton. I'm looking for two tons of pellets from someplace, it would be silly of me to buy two tons of Energex from the dealer if the pellets at Lows or HD are the same exact pellet. HD delivered $534, Lowes $538 delivered, the dealer $679. I can get Spruce Pointe delivered for $649 for two tons incidentally, unless they went up this year and IMO they are a superior pellet by a little bit. That's the route I will go if HD/Lowes doesn't work out and pricing has not changed. I've already secured two tons of DF for the mid winter burn period. So anyway, that's what the comparison is about on my part. I've burned most of these pellets last year a few bags at a time, have not burned the Green Team pellets. They look an awful lot like LG bags to me with different print on them.

Spruce Points are a good solid hot pellet at 8700 BTU, if they get off their butts and get the pricing listed I may go that way.

I have burned FSU almost exclusively for the last 2 winters with excellent results.
We didn't care for them. I didn't like the mess and my wife noticed less radiant heat off the P61 than with DF, LaCrete or Spruce Pointe. And she had a broken rib last winter so had herself parked right next to the stove knitting. Ya they heated the house but we burned more pellets too. More pot scraping etc. When my wife saw the bags of FSU at HD the other day she said right away, "oh those are the ones we decided we didn't want to use again". Pretty etched in stone ! She has not complained about the Energex and they say here at the forum these are the same pellet. I'm not so sure of that really. Maybe so and we are imagining things, that's fine too. I've been married to this woman for going on 41 years soon, if she doesn't like something you aren't changing her mind no matter what the facts are ! So we just won't even go there, FSU are off the list.

If that pinch ever comes, you won't know what works well in your stove unless you've tried them.
In Oct/Nov, I'll buy a couple bags of whatever I find. I don't mind burning the cheap stuff (the stove is not running all the time in milder weather). And I usually come across a pleasant surprise. A few years ago it was Somerset, another year it was CheatRiver (both at Lowe's), and last year it was the Tractor Supply Hardwoods (Energex). I bought more of each to burn in the colder weather.

On the other hand, in really cold weather the stove runs flat-out continuously so I burn the hottest/cleanest pellet I can get. But I have never seen those mythical Doug Firs around here...

SwineFlue,
I appreciate your feedback on Somerset Pellets. I ran across them at TSC today and due to posts like yours and a few others, I grabbed 4 tons and wrapped up my preps for winter. Just wanted to say thanks to you and all the other folks that post on their experiences with different pellet brands.

Thanks
