I know that this is anathema to all of the wood purists here, however, I have taken your wood preachings to heart and I am looking for seasoned firewood in the DC area. Here is the kicker. I am on deployment and will not return to the US for several months. I am looking to have seasoned firewood delivered in DC? Any ideas? Any suggestions.

For burning wood in my fireplace I have used New Morning Farms firewood deliver for several years. I have been very happy with it until now and over the course of the past six months of starting my transition to a woodburning stove, I have learned that the wood I was burning was primarily less seasoned than ideal. In fairness to New Morning Farms I am going to call them again and tell them that my situation has changed and I genuinely need "seasoned" wood for my new insert. They have otherwise offered very nice and reliable service.

So, if you are in the wood delivery range of DC, do you have a recommendation for how to feed my brand new Blaze King Princess Insert with seasoned wood?

If I cannot find anything by the time I return home, I am simply going to burn BioBlocks for my first remaining half season and give myself the spring to procure wood for the next few years.

I think the last two lines of your post sum up what is going to be your best result. Finding truly seasoned firewood from a seller is hard, and often pricey enough to just use the bioblocks in the first place for a guaranteed product.

I wish you luck, but getting truly seasoned wood brought in, is a tough find.

Only thing harder to find in the area than seasoned firewood is compressed wood brick fuel. Best price around is Tractor Supply in Manassas, for $350 a ton which is equal to about a cord of wood. Then ya gotta haul it into D.C.

I have been trying to get somebody to handle brick fuel around here for years, with no success. Liberty Bricks down in Richmond just can't seem to get the things 90 miles up the highway.

Your regular wood vendor is the best bet Marine.

@NRGarrott that is great gouge. I will do that and some Bio or Eco Blocks as well for my late season purchase. I still plan on contacting New Morning as they served me well in the past, however, I feel that I understand a bit more about wood now. I live in Tenleytown.

@BrotherBart interestingly I have done a little research on LibertyBricks and while they are in Doswell now (Even further up 95 for those of you not from the immediate area, near Kings Dominion) it seems that you have to pick them up yourself. They do not ship to a closer distributer in Northern VA. They also only sell by the Ton, which is great, if you can carry a ton. I'll see if I can work something out. Seems silly to drive from DC there just to pick up fuel. A little counter intuitive. Maybe when I get back I'll feel like a road trip to Norfolk or something and I can hit them on the way back.

Pwaggs you can get kiln dried firewood for a reasonable rate around here. 1 cord of kiln dried for $325. Where do you live? I work in Shaw.

+1 I have used them. It is pricey but perfectly dry and ready to burn. Also, ask them if they can work something out on the price. They once sent me a cord on another delivery to a local business and I think I paid only $250 for that cord--not bad at all for quality kiln dried firewood. They may or may not but its worth a try.
