This guy popped out of my round while I was splitting

While splitting a maple today this guy popped his head out. I thought it was a snake at first. Thought it was dead too. Touched its head, no movement. Came back about a half hour later and he is out on top of the round. What kind of beetle is he?



That is my extra large gloved finger in the photo.

We have them around here, not sure what they're called. Those big, fake eyes are creepy!

I have not seen one of those in a long long time. What I did see the other day was this guy on my Black locust. At first I thought it was a tooth-pick sticking out of him but I was wrong. Hello from Granby CT.

Looks like a white and orange snake next to it. LOL Or even a Koi

Is that a well worn trigger finger?
 
As a matter of fact my trigger finger is well worn, hence the alias.

Nice! I've been wanting to get into some of that, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere around me that hosts events and whatnot
 
Yeah I shoot Master class now and go up against him in ESR every February at the IDPA Indoor Championships and last year and this year at the Back up Gun Nationals in November. I have never beat him but I have done a few second and third place nationals.
