I think I would like to remove the auger and do a little scraping. How do you remove the auger and how complicated is it?

Thanks!

Easy Peasy on a P-Series Harman :)

Just loosen the set screw that holds the Auger motor on and disconnect the auger motor wires and pull off the motor.
Then remove the 2 auger bolts and take a rasor blade knife and cut the silicone that makes the auger stick and give her a good yank!

Don't forget to check for auger pox!

Thanks Don!

When I reinstall it do I just put a bead of high temp silicone on and screw it back in?

Where do you find the high temp silicone?

Yes, just a small bead of High Temp RTV you can get at Home Depot or Local Hardware Store

What is are auger pox?

Lol

Like chicken pox?

Yes, bumps of splattered Slag from welding the spiral fin on to the shaft ! ! ! looks like pimples but sharp enough to shread pellets and cause a Jam!

Also rotate the auger in your hand slowly and carefully to assure it turns smoothly with no snags. If there is even a slight snag, it means the built in bearing is going or gone and it will wear out the auger motor sooner.

I worked on a 8 year old Harman Accentra Insert with a snag when turning the auger. That was minor compared to the real problem.
The bar that held the hopper lid up fell into the auger chute and jammed it solid.
The motor tried to turn so much it buried the shaft into the base of the auger. So in order to get the auger motor off, I had to use a pry bar until the auger motor shaft snapped!
When I got it all back together and working we found the next day that the vacuum switch was bad so the auger stopped turning. LOL What a job!

Thanks Don, I also check your post on auger pox. A wealth of knowledge you are!

Thanks Again!

Good Luck - Welcome!

Found this thread doing a search. I removed my auger to scrape and clean it well. When re-installing the auger how tight is tight enough for the two auger bolts? One of mine tightened up nice but the other one keeps turning, but with a lot of resistance. I don't want to strip anything but I also want the auger to be in there as tight as it should be. Any guidelines? Thanks.

Sounds like you should take the bolt off and wire brush the threads to clean them and then a drop of oil to lube it. Then put it back on and it should tighten up like the other one. :)
