North Chatham, NY
I've been checking a bunch of stores around the area and here are some of the prices and pellets I've found.
Home Depot - East Greenbush, NY Stove Chow - $215/ton
Walmart - East Greenbush, NY Pennington - $209/ton
Mario's Hardware - Valatie, NY Inferno - $245/ton
Ace Hardware - Chatham, NY Lignetics - $290/ton
ACE HARDWARE - NASSAU, NY
Prices range between 225 - 290/ton but have the following pellets:
Inferno, Cubex, Barefoot, Lignetics, New England, Dry Creek, Warm Front
They also will store them for I think $15/month so you can buy a few tons and have them stored and pick up whatever you need any time. Guy there has two Harmans so someone is knowledgeable about pellets!

UPDATE 9-5-14

Home Depot in North Greenbush has Green Supremes for $238/ton and looked to be about 75 tons.
Walmart nearby has what looks like Penningtons for a little less.

X2 on the GS at HD and Penningtons at Wal-Mart..Mario's had Lignetics (green lettering) there last I checked which was a week ago. I believe for $299/ton. Ace in Chatham is still carrying Lignetics for $279/ton (as of a month ago). As for Ace in Nassau, I went in there last week looking for the Barefoots and was told they are all sold out already from the pre buy they did in the spring and early summer. The girl behind the counter could not guarantee they would be seeing any more this season. I live a few miles away so I'll just keep checking throughout the season. I did see on Craigslist, Claverack (near Hudson) Service Station carrying Energex for $259/ton. No delivery offered. Grab and go.

HUDSON
Lowes has Green Team, North American and Pro-Pellet(?) they're made by lignetics
Tractor Supply had Green Supremes and their own brand which I'm not sure about
Walmart has Penningtons but $250/ton!

SCHODACK
Tractor supply has their own brand, green supremes and Freedom Pellets? never heard of them.

Thanks for the research, blindsider. If those are Freedom Fuel pellets, I've never burned them, but from the majority of comments I've seen on this forum, they aren't worth buying..just beware. If you want to try them, I'd advise a couple bags tops. I'd probably look at TSC's own brand, given the 3 choices. Sometimes you can tell by the UPC code on the bag. Back in August, that TSC had Maine Woods Pellets rebagged with their name on it.
I wouldn't touch the Penningtons for $209 a bag, to be honest. I think their are better shoulder pellets out there. I'd hold out for the Stove Chows from HD, or I'd even get Dry Creek from Agway in Chatham before the GS or North American. I really liked the Greene Team last year, but the price went up, and..well..I'm not sure if they're worth $299/ton.

Green Team is better than GS, but that's not saying much (I've burned both). GT at $299 is a no go for me.

Yeah thats crazy for the Green Team. I too would love to find some Stove Chows. Still have almost a full ton of bare foots from last spring but I don't want to burn them early season. Maybe I'll get the UPC for the TS brand and see what it is. Didn't think highly of the Lignetics last year.

Mario's in Valatie had the Lignetics but said they didn't have enough to sell a ton.

Ace Hardware in Nassau has their pellets but I haven't stopped by. Their spring order prices were much higher than last year. Everything seems to be $250++ but they're nice and know about them and carry a wide variety if you're willing to pay for it.

Hey guys,

I got 3 tons or Currans from Amanda's for 239 a ton. burned a ton last year and they are an average pellet at what seems to be average price.

I am trying to find a premium pellet for Jan/Feb. Need just a single ton in the garage and while Green teams or sumersets would be nice I think 300 a ton is high on those.

If anyone finds one for 275 let us kow.

THanks all.

What currans were they hardwood, soft or blend? Keep trying lowes in Hudson. Last year I found they had hammers hot ones for 239 a ton. Maybe this year we can get lucky again with those or somersets!

I got the blend

If you're looking for a premium pellet then I'd hit the Ace Hardware in Nassau. Here is a list of what they have outside, not sure how much stock on each.
Insta Heat $240/ton
Lignetic $294.50/ton
Dry Creek $289/ton
New England $259.50/ton
Barefoot $300/ton

They also had Cubex but didn't have the price on it but I assume around $280-$300. They will store them too. Wish they did free delivery since I'm only a few miles from them.

Blindsider, does Ace have the Barefoots available? I know they stock them, but when I went there to ask, they said they were all sold during their spring pre-buy. The "sold" ones are outside by the road (I'd say at least 15-20 tons there). Sucks that I missed that one. As far as the Cubex, I bought a ton of them, and since I too live about 5-7 miles away, they let me bring 25 bags at a time to my house, saving the delivery fee. Price was $299/ ton, so your assumption was right on.

Just stopped by Ace and asked about the Barefoot. They got another truck in this week so they have about 8-10 tons left after I bought 3 myself! I opted for the $15/ton storage fee since I don't have a truck at this time. And I don't have to try and store all those at my house. That'll make almost 4 tons of barefoot for me and looking for another ton of cheaper pellets for shoulder season. Come on Stove Chows!

How do barefoots compare to Oakies? I found Oakies for 320 a ton over in Adams and might drag a ton home this weekend.

I haven't burned the Oakies to give you an effective comparison, but the Barefoots put out some excellent heat in my P68, with not a whole lot of ash.
Agree with you on the high price of Greene Team. I liked their pellet last year, but if I can get the Barefoot at the same price, it's a no-brainer. I'd pay $259 for the Greenes but not $299.

oh i like this thread, you guys are all homies!!! So Lowes has GT for 299 a ton, no go, HD in East greenbush had GS and nations choice as of Wednesday 239 ton, tremonts in averill park had Dry Creek for 279.00 a ton and i think lignetics, i havent been up to Snows (i think he carrys NEWP) on rt 43 but i might stop tomorrow, free storage with him. im goin to nassau ace tomorrow to see what he has left, 300 for bearfoot is better than 300 for GT's. picked up 2 bags of premium pellet, just to try at TSC in schodack, havent been burning bad at night.

Adopted homie... 3 kids at RPI and very much like Browns Brewery!!!

Should also add, they are all graduated, fully employed, and although I'm not in Troy, I'm sitting here with a cold Bud and the 52i cranking in NH.

Adopted is good too, I have family in NH, my great uncle owned a hotel on Hampton Beach, spent most of my summers there. We go to the white mountains at least 2-3 times a year.
I can't tell you how many times I drove over "Hog Back Mtn" and back - Rte 9 to 7... Those days are over. Kids still go back to Troy area and although there are issues, what a great place just 10mins away...Apple orchards, the Hudson River, etc...

Bowhunter...stopped at Ace tonight to pick up some of my Barefoot ton (I drive by there every day on the way home from work, so I'm going to grab 10 bags a shot for 5 days. They're OK with it..they said as long as they are out by the 30th, no storage charge. They are pretty nice and helpful there. Good luck getting them..they still had them tonight, so I think you should be Ok. I like the fact that they have a wide selection..something for everyone. Another option to consider, Becker's Farm in East Greenbush on columbia Turnpike carried Ambiance pellets last year, and I believe they will carry them again this year. Good pellet to burn, and they were charging $259/ ton (I'm going to guess that may go up this year). Still, I'd have no problem burning those in my Harman again..they put out some nice heat.

hog back mountain, i remember stopping at the restaurant there on the way to the beach. hahaha that was so long ago. i live 11 miles from Mass border now, we go over the molly stark to get to NH. you are correct, there is some very nice things outside of Troy, but, the restaurants are probably the best in the area.

Thanks for the info, im there all the time, i looked last weekend at what they were carrying this year, i was not impressed with the early pricing at all. havent been to Beckers yet, i saw they were selling last year, which was a first for them. i drive by Ace twice a day, i can take a ton in my truck, Ace is 15/20 min from my house.
