The start of the 2014-15 wood heating season arrived yesterday and the next 5 days may keep it going - lows in the 30'sF with night frost and highs in the 50'sF. On the one hand, I don't like to start burning wood until October, but on the other hand the wood burning season has a mystique that still leaves me in awe over the massive energy in wood and knowing that the energy source is sustainable.
This is the beginning of Year 8 for the Tarm Solo Plus 40 for the shop, truly a gentle work horse doing the job without complaint; and the beginning of Year 25 for the SeeFire wood stove in the house, which only has needed a little renewal of the innards (new firebrick and steel baffle plate) from time to time. I also have the opportunity to experience the awe-some performance of a Wood Gun E500, Garn WHS3200, and Froling FHG 50, which together provide heat and DHW for a 62,000 sq ft facility. I never imagined that my post-60 year life would be so productive in a field far from my prior professional life ... and enjoying every minute of it.
