My friend has a bunch of this wood on his property he said I could have. Is it locust?

Thanks! I've never processed ash before!

Typically this is one of the easier hardwoods to process . . . there was one former member here who used to just give his white ash a hard scowl and it would practically split itself. Truthfully, unless there are a lot of knots, it generally splits up quite easy . . . even with a maul or ax.

Ayep ...splits easy, seasons fast, burns hot....and now that the EAB has established itself in Connecticut, we're gonna have plenty of dead ash trees around in a few years ;hm

Ash, but is that Cherry or Pine at the top left?

Great question; guess I'll have more to post!

He actually has a bunch of trees that fell. Most need to be bucked but there are some in smaller pieces like the ones I posted.

Access is a pain (an inclined wooded area behind his fenced in backyard), but hopefully will be worth it once the wood is in hand.
