You could always put the stove against the middle/load bearing wall and go straight up and out with the chimney pipe. That type of setup provides the best draft VS going straight out a wall and then up.

If you do not have a supply of your own wood, I would go pellet. I have both. Disgusted with the "3 chord" of wood I get delivered every year. I have a few more trees to cut down on my property. When those are down and burnt, buh-bye wood stove. If you have a busy life style and are away from home for 12 hours a day... pellet stoves are great. If you fear the end of the world.. stick with a wood stove... ahem...

Another question to ask yourself is do you ever go without power for any amount of time here I was without power during the ice storm and Vermont for five days so would it was a great alternative for heat for me

ifish put it in the living room. That room is great for a wood stove, the other room is too small. Plus, y'all can sit there on the sofa and watch the fire burn, that is one of the great benefits of the wood stove. Get the Jotul Oslo you won't regret it.

I enjoyed my first year of scrounging! Got to meet some new people and help them clean up their properties. It got me off the couch and out being more active than I was before. And now I have a bunch of new power toys to tinker with! My back up is a NG furnace, so the cheaper of gas/oil methods but with the little bit of wood heating I did last Feb/March I love the wood heat! I find my self scoping CL almost every day trying to find my next free "fix" (scrounge). I hope to never have to buy wood. If you don't like labor intensive work go with the pellet stove. If you have a truck or trailer and like a challenge and hard labor go with the woodstove!

I say, keep in mind that all the firewood to feed that stove has to come into the main living area and can be messy. My wife "wood" not like wood heat if it made the house messy. My stove is banished to the basement and during the cold months I keep it company.
