I have had my Sante Fe for 3 years now. I have had the gasket replaced twice during that period. I noticed the last time they did this the gasket was already starting to frey in spots.
I'm looking to replace this myself. I'm tired of someone charging me $120 for this.
If someone has done this before....how much was the gasket and how difficult is it to replace ?
THANKS !!!!

Nobody's had to change a gasket in their pellet stove ???

I changed mine last year, myself!! If I must say so, these guys on here were ONE BIG HELP. I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to do it, but their encouragement was awesome.

If I, a newbie, can do it, you can too and you are a guy. Guys are supposed to be better at these kind of things.

Not the door or window gasket on mine, just the combustion blower and that isn't cemented or otherwise adhered to the stove.

Have changed gaskets on other heating systems it is easy, it can be messy depending on the how the old one was held on.

The place I bought my stove Gave me the replacement gasket and adhesive. So, I can't answer how much they cost. Can't be that much.

You have to take the old one out and then scrape/remove ALL of the old adhesive. That part isn't easy. I took my door off and laid it on the kitchen table (was afraid I'd get the adhesive all over the floor!) Squirted the adhesive in the groove and laid the new gasket in the groove, trimmed it, let it sit for a bit (15 - 20 mins) then put the door back on. Took newspaper and put between the door and stove, so any leakage of adhesive didn't glue the door shut! I don't remember how long I let that sit. Several hours or more. And whalla, it was good. Had my service tech check it the other week and he said it is just fine.

Good luck.

Go over to the corn burner forum and on the Quadrafire section, ask the question and Kap will tell you EXACTLY how to do it. I haven't changed mine yet so I can help other than to say you need the tadpole gasket and you get a length that is good for about 3 changes. It is held in on the sides by steel rods that you can see. I assume the top is held on with self-adhesive. It should also come with some tape to secure the ends so they don't fray. Finally, you got screwed IMHO $130 for a ten minute job, but Kap can answer that one.

Man, you resurrected an OLD one!!!! BUT I bet it will answer questions this winter! I wonder if 'godzilla' has replaced it 4 more times!!!!! :p

Just bought one on Ebay for $39. My third in nine years on the Castille. When you clean the glass, use a damp paper towel on cool glass. If you use Windex or anything with chemicals, they will accelerate the degradation of the gasket. Hope to get around to changing it next weekend. Take your time, look at the videos here. Good idea to take some pictures before you take it off so you have an easy reference for when you put the new one on.

Good advice. I take pictures of everything that I take apart! I still end up with one extra bolt!!! As long as it wasn't a main bearing bolt, things will be OK.......
I'm going on my 4th year with the original gaskets on both stoves but I have one on the shelf.

It's easy, I do it every other year weather it needs it or not..... for the $10 it costs its well worth the money

With the tadpole gasket, retaining rods, and cutting the corner pieces, I see no reason to risk breaking the very expensive glass until it actually needs the gasket.

Agreed Tim, I have the old style Castile door with the metal tabs that secure the glass instead of the rods. So I'm paranoid about both dropping the glass as well as breaking the tabs off and having to buy a whole new door. I've typically gotten 3 burn seasons out of my tadpole gaskets before needing to replace them, (I buy the OEM Quad made gaskets). I'm careful when I vacuum the gasket and don't use any cleaning chemicals on the glass. I do notice after 13 years of burning that the cast frame has a slight convex warp on the lower stove edge, so the gasket tends to fray first in the middle of the door where it has the most compression.

I have an Enviro Milan so there is no risk at all.. I take the old one out and push the new one in... easy! Takes about 15 minutes.
