I have a good size persimmon tree that came down in a wind storm the other night look like the base was eatin out by bugs that's why it was week but I cut it up seemed hard it had big black circle in the middle when cut. Does it burn good iv never burnt it seen online some say it's very good some don't like it.

Give it a year in the stack to dry and it'll be good to go.

Its rare to find it on a BTU chart but its up in the range of hickory and osage. I believe I read its in the ebony family.

Really? I might would cut one then if they wasn't deer magnets. At least they are in my area. Have quite a few of them on the property and have killed deer around all of them

note to self plant Persimmons for venison burgers :)

Almost any type of fruit tree is good for attracting deer. So, if you want your venison burgers with a hint of apple, peach, pear, kiwi, fig, persimmon, then plant the appropriate trees on your property. Hunting the lines to an apple orchard is insane.

Around here, driving past the ones that are close to the road is as well :(

Chimneysweep is pretty thorough but up until about 2 years ago they didn't have American Beech listed. I thought that was a major faux pas.
They have corrected their mistake since.

I thought I'd go out looking around the property since I found out how high persimmon was in btu's. I just happen to stumble up on a small one that was dead. Very weird looking wood with the black sap and all. Outside is a little punky but the inside is wet as can be. I'll throw this in the pile for next year and try it out for myself
