I bought some bags of Cubex when I placed my order for my seasons worth of pellets. I tried them out so far and I cant see how they had gotten such good reviews in the past?? The seem to burn dirty and pretty thick ash clumps form. Just doesn't seem to match up to lacretes and barefoots. Anyone else with similar results?

My experience with them is that they burned better than several of the other brands I tried last year, but not as good as Ambiance (which were $20/ton cheaper) so I went with those. It's amazing how different people have different experiences... I've noticed here that even several people with the same stove will have different experiences with the same pellet.

I burned them 2 years ago and thought they were one of the worst pellets I had seen. The ash they left would almost smother the fire.

Same....

I bought a ton 2 years ago.... They weren't just bad, they were the worst pellets I've ever burned! Ever!
I'm including that with some cheap box store pellets as well....
Not to mention their customer service was nonexistent. They never bothered to return my emails or calls!
I couldn't wait to get rid of them. I posted a comment about them on woodpelletreviews.com.
Never again!,,
Maine woods, lacrete, new England's, Okanagan gold, logik, maines choice, energex, Geneva.... All better!

Cubex in the 2008/9/10 ish seasons were dang good. they've since fallen off quite a bit IMO.

Curious why woodpelletreviews call them best of the best every year? They also raved about NEWP and I thought those sucked as well!

They suck horsey doo doo... I still have some bags on the bottom of my stack Im saving for some reason. Oh yea cause they suck and I dont want them.

X2 for me also

Funny how things go though, the first year I tried them I thought they were crap....last year they burned great in my stove.

This news stinks because I just got delivered 4 tons of them ..

RickNH, I got 4tons too. I've burned a couple of bags, there not that bad, although they don't seem to through off as much heat as last years.

I don't think they will ever be the same as the old Cubex. My dealer came and switched out a Ton for another, that Ton wasn't to bad, but not like the old Cubex of 2007+09

They are not the same as old.

Don't worry about it and don't be discouraged. When I first started I bought 3 tons of NEWP then came here and read about how much everyone hated them, but my experience with them was nothing like what I was reading on here. I now burn hardwood pellets which theoretically aren't supposed to be as hot or clean as softwood but my own personal experience says otherwise. Your experience with Cubex might be just fine and you may have no issues like what you're reading here. Either way, you have heat for your house, and any pellets are better than no pellets at all.

that site is one big ad. They say the best pellets are the ones that ship them free bags. ignore basically everything they say

The Cubex I burned last year (2 tons) were great. Because of the negative reviews from the year before, I was careful and tried a number of bags before buying tons. Ash was noticeably lower than the VTs I'd been burning and at least as good heat. I heard they had a problem with their fiber source because of a plant fire that season and were using material off the open market rather than from their flooring business. Seems like they were back on track last year. Haven't tried this year's batch yet but plan to because they were so good last year.

Have tried many brands over the last 12 years .
Always come back to Cubix seem to work best in my stove
always very hot ,length consistent ,very low in fines
Never had a problem with them even the year people say they sucked
I guess it is different strokes for different folks.
Try different ones and find one that works for you

I think it depends on the stove, and also how much air you're giving the fire.

Different pellets need a different damper setting.

Has anyone heard/seen anything on "Cubex Extra"? I just got 2 tons delivered and the bags look like the Cubex bags pictured but have the word "Extra" in black near the Cubex name. It is my first year trying these pellets as my supplier was out oh Hammers.

Cubex were my first pellet a few years back.
A couple of impressions:
  • They do burn dirty, creating big clumps of hardened ash
  • the btu rating is no where near what's advertised.

Those are the ones which my original post refers to.
