image.jpg I've been turning down scrounge wood lately. I have 3-4 years worth of wood split and racked and another two years worth of rounds waiting for room to be split but when a neighbor asked if I wanted to take a 70' dead standing White Ash I couldn't say no, I'll make room for it! I was a little nervous with its height and the fact that a nice dock and boat of his neighbors could be damaged if it fell wrong but it came down ok and it will make lots of good wood for some year down the road... The picture is of a load from the top of the tree. I also reeped 26 big rounds from the trunk.

That's definitely a good score no matter how far ahead you are. Ash processes at a very good ratio of sweat-to-BTUs.

I'm fixing to go to work tomorrow on a pile of Ash trunks from a freshly cleared lot. Got about a cord and a half the same way back in July. I'd be thrilled with half of that this time out.

hmm... You sure thats ash?

Looks more like sugar maple to me.

Looks like maple to me too. I like maple.

I've been working an Ash score that has been the score that just keeps giving. I bet I've gotten three cords out of the deal. Went back tonight to give a "final" cleanup to a score, and I ran out of room in my truck to pick up the splits plus the rounds that became visible once every split was picked up. Don't under-estimate a big tree! ;)

Doesn't appear to be White but could be Black or Green maybe? But I'm not to familiar with those, just White.

I thought it looked like ELM to me.

It's definitely not white ash. Could be green. Pretty sure it's not maple either, although I do see red maple leaves in the bed of the truck. Can we get a pic of a split? Seeing a split piece should easily confirm ash vs maple vs elm.

I see that too. Doesn't look like red maple though. At least not like mine. I say elm too
