Rick, is this your first season ever heating with pellets? I don't know what you paid for the Cubex but you can get MWP from Benson's Lumber in Londonderry for $250/ton with a flat rate $10 shipping charge. Not sure if they deliver to your area but you can call and see.

thx

View attachment 138697 Set for the winter , 6 tons of Barefoot ::-)
wow nice stash of Barefoot! I burned them solely last season (my first) but had a difficult time finding them for this year (I started looking in April) so I chose LaCretes (I tried 1 bag of some HD-type pellets for kicks to see if I could tell the difference between the 'better' pellets and the 'less expensive' type - lets just say I won't be buying the cheap stuff to save a few bucks). People say that I might like the LaCrete the same as Barefoot or just a touch better... time will tell

I just stacked my 5th ton of Hamer's for $239 each. I sure hope they burn like the batch from last year.

I have a couple test bags of Olympus Cascade 100% DF pellets from Home Depot (new product for them and me). At $239 per ton, thinking about using them instead of Golden Fire next year

Burned (1) bag of Cascade (100% DF) over the weekend... Really good product for the money! Very low ash and clinker! High heat output! Will purchase (4+) tons next season, replacing Golden Fire.

I have 6 tons this year. QQ for the group, does anyone keep some outside (and wrapped)?

I am not sure I have the motivation (or lung capacity) to move 6 tons this year all at once.

You should be fine leaving unopened pallets outside. Throwing a tarp over them won't hurt either. I recommend moving pellets inside once the pallet has been unsealed.

I don't know about being so much a pig but got the fuels all in by the end of July. Took the generator in last week because of carburator leaking and told can't get parts anymore. I guess thirty three years is all one can get from Honda:)

I surprisingly burned 1/2 ton less last season than past winters, despite the prolonged polar vortex weather conditions in New England. With no supplemental improvement in insulation amounts, I attribute my savings over prior years to burning better quality pellets, after-market stove modifications to my stove (thanks to Quad wizards tj and B-mod), and a borderline OCD attention to keeping my stove clean and operating at peak efficiency. I ordered my usual 4 tons of pellets this year to hedge against another potential bad winter, but upgraded to LaCretes from the Crabbes I burned last year. As I get older I find I also get pellet stove 'thermostat creep' to maintain more comfortable house temps than what I was willing to tolerate in my younger days.

Hey - nothing wrong with, and I'm guessing..., a 70+ degree house :) Seems most pellet users heat their houses to what is actually comfortable versus what is just under 'barely comfortable' if they were using oil or gas (64 - 66).

I too keep a very clean stove! What I do on a weekly basis is more of a monthly cleaning... but afterwards, I can feel a slight heat increase over just before cleaning and just afterwards - and I was burning good pellets to boot! (I'm looking forward to seeing how the LaCrete will compare)
