Englander 'Madison' stove

As well as pics, if anyone has info on where to buy them, that might help some members/lurkers who are considering the stove. The Madison does not seem to be listed on box store websites along with the other (13, 30, etc.) Englander stoves, and a quick google search does not show any retailers.

Someone got his from Sutherlands but it did not show up on their website last time I checked. I am wondering whether a call to Englander would help to find a retailer for someone who is interested.

I recall seeing the stove on AM FM Energy's site...

AmFm Energy and Northern Tool are about the only places I've seen them for sale as of yet.

I got mine from sutherlands. It wasnt on the web site. I called the store and asked. What do you want pics of i can send some after work?

I'm starting to think the Madison is a conspiracy. There are a total of about 3 pictures on the internet and a few "first burns" but its impossible to find out more information. Englander is certainly getting traffic to their website but its impossible to find anything but the generic information that has been out there for months.

Englander is making it exceedingly difficult to find good information. Its a shame to because starting a month or so ago is when everyone gets in woodstove mode and wants to buy a new stove. Is this thing just not available? How about a dedicated web page, a manual, etc.

If this elusive info already exists and Captain Obvious is reading this I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

They are out there. The sutherlands i got mine from,Fort Smith AR, had 3. Mabe i was just one of the lucky ones.

Right now it seems like you have to buy it in order to learn if its the right stove for you or not.

Sorry....I'm not really complaining. I love Englander and have used the heck out of my NC30.....I was just hoping to have a new toy to play with this year and its too late for stove shopping now. And like many people I like to research the heck out of everything before I drop many hundreds of dollars. I'm just disappointed that Englander hasn't really done any work promoting this new stove.

Well i researched the nc13 and 30. Nothing but good reviews on both. Really good reviews. But the 13 was too small the 30 was too big. The Madison seemed just the right size. Given ESW,s record and reputation. I couldnt see how they could have screwed this one up. Even if the AAS doesnt work. Its still a firebox and secondary burn and they have proven that they know how to make that work right! So i took a chance. So far very happy. But winters not here yet. The only thing im concerned about is the AAS trigger. I ran it up to 430* and shut to low. It climbed up to. 540*. If the AAS kicks in around 550* and max burn temp is 600* and it climbs up a 100*. Then its in overfire. But well see.

I am also a bit disappointed that it takes so long for the stove to show up at retailers but I find some of your criticism off the mark. What kind of reviews do you expect for a stove that is just being shipped to retailers? Even the early buyers could at most do some break in fires as winter has not even started yet. For the Madison as for any new stove you have to take a leap of faith when purchasing one. Stove manufacturers cannot ship out test units to "professional" reviewers like car companies do it. That's just not in the margins for such a "niche" product. If that makes you uncomfortable go for a tried and proven model.

As for not finding it at Lowes or HD: They may have wanted to stock up on their usual sellers (13, 30) first knowing their sale numbers before comitting to carrying a new stove. Retail floor space is valuable.

On the other hand, think how much the beta testers for Woodstock have helped generate buzz for their new products.

The strange thing about the Madison is that even if you wanted to buy one without any reviews, based on its size and on the quality of other Englander products, it seems Englander's website and a quick google search give no indication that the stove is even available anywhere. Hit the "shopping" search and you get this: "No results for Englander Madison stove." Really? ZERO?

Six months after being announced, you would think they'd want to sell some stoves going into winter, so there WOULD be some reviews this season. And if not through Lowe's or HD then at least through a limited selection of smaller retailers. But who might those retailers be? As it stands now, if I were a potential customer that decided the 13 was too small and the 30 was too big, I would be forced to conclude after a quick search that I would have to look for a mid-sized stove NOT made by Englander.

Was there any official announcement of Englander regarding the release of the Madison? I must have missed it. What's happening right now is the reason why most companies are very careful with generating buzz about a new product before it is ready to hit the shelves. Any little snafu delaying the production/shipment and immediately there will be complaining customers. Stoveguy2esw may think twice now before posting any other pre-release info about a new stove.

What was the price?

Yall are right. I was looking at 13 or 30. One of the members here mentioned the Madison. I found very little information and i looked. I waited all summer. Nothing. Called ESW because it wasnt on the web site. But i had to by a stove for this winter. My buget was tight. So my choices were limited. But all my info about the stove,in production and ready forsale, came from hearth.com. Im gambling on ESWs reputation.

$899 before tax. Higher than 13 or 30. But ember protection only hearth requirement. IMO made up for the difference in price.

I don't know about official release date, just when they started showing it off, which was early March at the expo. Then Mike started his thread in May: "the stove is just coming available (we will be building 200 of them next week)." Then I believe a forum member purchased one in July. And if Sutherlands still has any, they don't seem to appear on their site.

Maybe Mike will chime in at some point to shed light on the mystery. I don't know how long Englander has had the Madison page on their website, but seems they ought to have a disclaimer there: "Stove not actually available for retail purchase at this time -- this page is for teasing purposes only."

the Madison is being sold as "special order" only as its not being stocked in the US (its a stocked unit in Canada at Canadian Tire) it has been available since like mid summer through any of our vendors but not being stocked in stores has probably cause less interest.

as for the website , i apologize for that , we are currently in a major overhaul of our website and there are quite a few things which have been slipping through the cracks during the website rebuild. im pushing to get more information posted on our current website version but the way its laid out makes it a bit awkward to do so, which is why the "link" for the Madison spec sheet is linked to a seperate webpage accessed off our homepage. also the manual has not yet been made available and im working to get that done as soon as possible.

normally these issues with new stove launches isnt as big an issue but with the website work being done its caused some problems getting good information out to the public.

if anyone does have any specific questions about the Madison (or any of my products) feel free to either call my tech support line, send e mail through our "contact us" link, or simply e mail me personally or PM me through the hearth.com system which i monitor at work and can answer quite quickly.

again i apologize for the less than stellar way this product launch has been handled, it is certainly not the norm for this to happen this way.

Thanks for the clarification. When you say "special order", does that mean someone could go to HD for example and have them order the stove from you? Essentially any retailer you usually do business with?

this is correct. although they will not "have one on the floor" in virtually any case. its relatively the norm for us when we launch a new product to be predominantly a special order item the first season out. next season its likely that the unit will be carried as stock by at least some of the vendors.

I purchased mine from AM FM. I bought it on a Monday, had it delivered by a lift gate box truck that Friday. Cost me $900 total. They are factory seconds with some kind of blemish that doesn't make them suitable for some places. Mine has a scratch on the top that is hatdly even noticable. My stove is currently sitting in my garage waiting to be installed but I can get you pictures if you would like.
