If i have an 8" oval to 6" Dura Vent double wall pipe adapter coming out of my VC Encore, can i connect it to 6" single wall pipe. Why/why not?

Which model Encore? With the 2040 it can be done as long as the stove is not run with the doors open. You'll want decent draft. Describe the whole flue setup to us from the stove to the chimney cap.

right now my encore has a normal 6" round flue collar. vents vertical in single wall pipe for 2', hits a 90 degree elbow, passes through a thimble(surrounded by brick) into an old chimney with is lined with a stainless steel liner all the way out the top. The chimney with liner inside runs up the center of the house. I've had the stove for 2 years and it works great. However, i've always wanted to burn with the doors open. I know you are not supposed to do this unless you are running the 8" pipe but the set-up i have now works 98% of the time when i try with the doors open. I was thinking if i installed the 8" oval flue collar and then connected it to my existing flue, there would be the little extra draw i needed. I have the Dura-Vent 8" oval to 6" round pipe and I'm wondering if that double wall pipe can be joined to the single wall pipe.

In that case no, the adapter is not going to change anything. The stove should still only be run with the doors closed. Don't worry, you're not missing a lot.

Aside from whats going on with my stove, can you connect double wall to single wall pipe without any sort of adapter?

It's not meant for that. Normally one runs one or the other.

They are not designed to be mixed. I have never tried doing so.

No.
