No Hole in the Refractory? Dutch West 2461

Ok, need your help. Just replaced the refractory in the 2461. Went to put the thermostat back in the top and the refractory does not have a hole in it! I have the old one and the hole looks a little like it was there by the manufacturer and a little like someone made the hole. It's not perfectly round.

Should I drill a hole?
 
I think you make your own hole. Drilling a starter hole should prevent the refractory from flaking apart which may happen if you just push it in.
 
Non off the combustion boxes from VC come with the hole, wether it's for the cat probe or the secondary air probe. Just use a drill bit in your fingers to punch it out.
