I had my routine (age 54) colonoscopy last week, and it was pretty painful. I was supposed to be pretty out of it, but I remember a number of instances of significant pain followed by the anesthetist telling me to breathe and relax.

Afterwards I asked the doc what the story was, and he said "you have incredibly strong abdominal muscles!" I guess I tensed up, and that made things hurt.

I figure that the muscles are strong from splitting wood. So if you split your wood by hand, make sure the doc gives you more dope before sticking anything up your butt.

It's true about the really strong abs you get from splitting. That has really helped with my back pain. The only time it did hurt having strong abs was when I had the amniocentisis done when I was 16 weeks pregnant. It made it very difficult for the needle to pass through the muscle tissue and it did hurt a bit. Just my luck the first needle didn't land in a good spot, so they had to do it again and boy did it really hurt the second time. The doctor said boy you're tough I really had to push that needle - I said boy you need sharper needles!!

Are you sure they just didn't want you alert enough to say "stop" when you could taste metal? :bug:

Seroiously, I'll still risk things with the hydro splitter. :cheese:

I still split with a maul.

I have raisan bran for breakfast and eat only wheat bread. I'm taking my chances!

I'm still laughing at this post...........I've split by hand since first hauling free fuel out the woods with my Dad when I lived in northeastern PA. I dont know if any of you are familar with the Elk Mountain region in PA. We were allowed to cut down what we wanted in certain areas....but man it was alot of work. Cut the tree down, branch it, cut it up in lengths, load it,unload it, split it up by hand and stack it. Make any 12 year old kid hate wood all together...but here I am age 37 and burning wood. I retired my maul and wood grenade this summer and my brother-in-law and I have bought a splitter. Here is a pic I posted last year of my retired tools.......have a good laugh!

I'll take being fit and in excellent health and having a slightly painful colonoscopy over having a pain free colonoscopy and being sick and out of shape any day!

woodbutcher, how long did your woodgrenade last. my best one lasted for about 4 cords. the tips keep shearing off.

It's about 4 years old......It's pretty beat, but still works good.

I'm 49, I split all my own wood, and I'm not laughing.

woodbutcher, where did you get the wood grenade?

This was my second year to cut and split wood. Did 2 cord last year by hand and really enjoyed it. Added about 11 more cord this summer...all split by hand (as a retired teacher the only thing I used to split was infinitives) Probably in best shape in many years. Unfortunately, my wood shed is full so wonder what I'll do for fun next summer - maybe a colonoscopy
