Actually the baffle appears to be fine but it fell off the rear wall of the stove and landed in the firebox. I'm trying to figure out how the baffle was attached to the rear interior wall. I can see the bolts/screws and nuts that match up to the mounting holes in the baffle but they don't appear long enough to attach it back on. Could the bolts have sheared off or was the mounting area of the baffle extremely thin? It almost appears that the bolts had a nut that attached them to the rear wall and then extended out into the firebox so you could slide the baffle on and then attach a second nut (and maybe a washer). Could that be true and if so, how do I get to the bolts so I can replace them with longer ones that will again reach thru the baffle? Thanks in advance for any help.

Is the top removable on your stove? Usually there are a couple bolts, diagonally opposite, holding down the top for shipping. Remove those two bolts on the inside and the top should lift off. That should improve access considerably.
Thanks for your response. I have removed the stove top and can see where the baffle attaches. What I am really trying to figure out is just how the baffle is bolted in place. Do the bolts that hold the baffle have two nuts on them. One for attaching to the rear wall and a second nut for attaching the baffle? If that is the case then I will have to replace the bolts with longer ones as they appear to have broken off and are not long enough to reach thru the baffle. The the question comes up, how to I access the heads of the bolts that hold the baffle in place?
It's going to depend on which model 8 this is. On this stove the baffle design varies with the model suffix. The 8TDC for example is a cat stove. In the basic 8 that one can still buy in Europe the baffle appears to simply rest on the back and side plates.

I have the really old 1984 Jotul 8 and the baffle just rests on the back and side plates. I would suspect yours might not if there are bolts/nuts in there.
This is a catalytic Series 8 stove but I forgot to get the actual model number off the back plate. I tore the poor thing apart this weekend and it turns out that the baffle uses the same bolts as the pivot for the flue damper. The bolts go thru the pivot point for the flue damper and thru the interior back plate where a washer and nut are installed and tightened, then thru the baffle where another washer and nut are installed. It looks like it is going to be an interesting thing to fix. Attach the damper to the interior back wall. Install the back wall with the four bolts (two of which I had to cut off with an angle ginder) and then slide the baffle over the extended damper bolts and install the washers and nuts. Finally, remove the exterior back plate and reinstall the catalytic block.
I can figure out the bolting and mechancial stuff but are there any tricks or secrets to installing the catalytic block and insullation? The cat block was in good shape with just a few plugged holes which I cleaned out so I think it is good to go back in. Is there any reason to change it if it isn't broken or completely plugged?
