Like home depot, lowes. They have Englander, U.S. Stove, volgelzang, etc from $1,000 to $2,200. Are these anywhere near the efficiency of the bigger name brand stoves for $2,000 and up? Are the burn times decent?

I've seen them and in my opinion I wouldn't waste the money on them. I know someone that bought a cheapo ($400) from I think northern. The firebox is way too small. It does provide heat but it requires more work.

Englander is the best stove maker and a company that sticks with its product, reliable and cost effective with great customer service plus made in the USA, STAY AWAY FROM US STOVE - unreliable, poorly made, horrible customer care, and made in China - I own a US stove 2500 free stander I got a tractor supply- put out heat but simply didn't last..my 2 cents

Hmmm.... I don't know. Let me think about it a little bit.

These stoves provide great value. Drolet and Englander stoves have proven to be quite popular with folks here. They perform very well. The big Englander 30NC is an exceptionally clean burner for a 3+ cu ft stove.

LoL. Englander FTW. Honestly, no idea about their gas stoves. I have two wood burners and have had to call customer service just a couple times with questions and only one minor issue. Love my stoves and the Customer service is awesome.

I dunno why I thought it said gas insert... Anyway, I have the NC30 and it's an awesome stove. Got a smokin deal on it, too.

Inexpensive doesn't necessarily mean cheap ;)

Just be sure to get opinions from here before dropping the cash on a new stove

FIL has a volzengang performer. 100000 btus and it heats his 2 story house from his den. I would put in the panderosa if i had room for a stove. 152000 btus is alot of heat!

They all do if they're EPA approved. You aren't going to find a catalytic stove for $1000.

Hmm, I'm looking at these both at home depot and lowes, but can't find any information whether or not they have secondary burn. You'd think they'd list it if it did.
Sure, any EPA approved stove will have some method of secondary burning and will have pretty comparable efficiency. Englander in particular has an excellent reputation here and I believe that the Summer's Heat brand is the same stove. As mentioned, Drolet also has good vibes here.

Summers Heat=Englander. I can confirm this.

I have a pleasant heart from Lowes. The 1800sq ft model. Firebox isnt huge but otherwise im very happy with it. Good burn time and plenty of heat for our 1500sq. Ft. Raised ranch. Little cheaper than the englander but still USA made which is important for me.

Well unfortunately i have to or spend big bucks rebuilding my hearth. It's only tilted slightly and it's sealed up and secure so im not too worried about it.

I would never buy a US Stove product again. I would rather freeze.........

I would maybe move the combustibles away from the stove too.... It says clearance from combustibles in the code, not clearance from the wall. I see plastic brooms, gloves ( leather does burn), hot sticks?, firewood.......

Relax guys, not my first rodeo burning wood. Bunch of fire code snobs here eh? I was in the process of picking up the crap that accumulated all summer. This was first fire of the season just to take the chill off in the house. Im a firefighter and emt, i know what is safe and is not thanks. I was just commenting on the fact that these budget stoves and inserts can be pefectly fine for those of us that cant afford or are mot willing to pay for the status amd prettyness factor of a $4,000 Harmon.

Nobody cares what stove you have or how pretty your setup is. They ARE kinda safety snobs here, though! Yiu'll get used to it because the people here are pretty awesome and they are safety snobs because they care, not just for the sake of ragging on people.

Its easier to swallow when we recognize that the comments you and I receive are meant for more than just you and I, they are for the other random Joes that stumble upon your pictures and my horrible ideas ! ;)
