I have been following woodpellets.com prices for my location. They just increased pellet prices $10 a ton. I thought this is the time of year when the big box stores reduce prices. Also my local fuel oil price just dropped 5 cents per gallon.

I am probably the only person in this forum that buys pellets from woodpellets.com.

There is a severe shortage of wood pellets in the market. This is the way last season ended. No mills or distributors could build inventory over the summer. Too many pellets going to Europe and asia, plus many new pellet stove owners. With the exception of last season, pellets have been in line with supply and demand, not this year. All pellet mills are behind on orders. There are rumors that one major supplier is so oversold, they will not be able to honor all the orders. Everyone, to gamble that the price may drop 10 -15 per ton is crazy. There is way more upside potential.Prices could go up double or triple that amount. Or you may not be able to find them. please hedge your bet, and buy some.

I stopped buying from WP. Com, prices are ridiculous. I have spoken with several pellet distributers, the shortage is being engineered by the mills to increase prices. I switched to CT Pellet and will get them myself.

Looked at CT pellet last night and they had no pricing on their website.

What did you purchase and how much?

I was able to score 1.5 tons of Pacific Cleanfire Soft and 1.5 tons of LG for $298 a ton delivered in front of garage from WP.com. I don't have a truck so this saved me having to move 3 tons two times if I were to go fetch from Lowes or HD.

I did the same thing. They don't want to list their prices, then they must not want my business.

Full disclosure. When I checked on my smart phone I saw prices. Who knows

I called CT pellet, not accepting new customers at the moment. I ordered and paid for mine in June, glad I did.

Buy some oil you may save yourself a few bucks...

Thanks to you and others, I am so oblivious to oil pricing now, it was only due to you guys bringing it up that I'd asked for my supplier to top off my tank, thanks. My mind is more on the 100 mile radius of pellet supply...

No thanks to oil, my home is Nat. Gas. 2.5 tons of pellets last season, 3 cords of wood for the heat upstairs my gas bill from Oct. 15th to April 15th was $279.00, Combine the cost of the wood and pellets and I still saved over $1000.00!

Insane prices for sure... I just checked their site and they want $280 a ton for Maines choice? That's a $220-$240 tops pellet at local places around here..

TSC has them for $239 a ton.

Which TSC? I'm in NH and the Brentwood store has Maine Woods and some Dry Creek products. Haven't tried Maine's Choice.

Sent you PM. My bad, it was Lowe's, not TSC. I have visited so many places I don't know where I am anymore.

No worries--haha. I know the feeling!!

Someone mentioned this but look on ebay or coupon sites for a 10% off coupon for Lowes or Home Depot and then buy discounted gift cards on line to maximize price reduction. Worked for me. Comes out to under 200 a ton.

I believe Natural Gas is by far cheaper than Wood Pellets. You can not be saving much if anything by burning Wood Pellets versus Natural Gas. Others on this forum that recently converted from oil to Natural Gas voice their tough decision what do do with their Pellet Stove.

Free firewood of course will beat the price of Natural Gas, unless you include the chain saw, pickup truck, and Emergency Room visit :)

Perhaps the OP can change the title of this thread as it is no longer relevant and dated.

I here this every season that Natural gas is cheaper than pellets. It all depends on the house, insulating factor and square footage you are trying to heat. I will tell you hands down, pellets saved me lots of dough in the last 4 years.
Last season the coldest on record in the Hudson Valley I used $600. in pellets, $375. in wood and $265.00 in Natural gas from October 15th to April 15th. In retrospect the 2010-2011 heating season was warm. My wife and I used gas and 3 cords of wood. I used for the same period , $1860. in Natural gas. !!! and 20% more in electricity to run my 96% efficient gas furnace in my 1950 cape cod style home. Please also note that Natural gas least season spiked to t's highest levels in years do to the extreme cold. I would estimate to have spent $2,200-$2,500. In Nat gas and much more in electricity. So please before we comment on the forum that Nat gas is cheaper, lets examine the persons needs for heating.

That simply means you have a poorly installed furnace or boiler. Or your heating spaces that are not needed.
